TSU Coach Reggie Barlow Sees Silver Lining After North Dakota State Loss

by Emma Walker – News Editor September 7, 2025
written by Emma Walker – News Editor

Nashville, TN‌ – Tennessee State University football coach Reggie Barlow remained optimistic following a 45-0 loss to North Dakota⁣ State Saturday, emphasizing the opportunity for player development despite the lopsided score. The game, played September‍ 6, 2025, saw North Dakota State‘s starters score on all six first-half possessions, building a 45-0 halftime lead.

TSU mirrored North Dakota State’s approach in the second half, substituting heavily to provide playing time for less experienced⁢ players.⁣ “Just like them, they played a lot of people,we played a good bit of players who don’t normally get to play,” Barlow said. Defensive⁢ end Khy’lek Jarrett, a recent transfer from Princeton, recorded a tackle, alongside contributions ⁣from wide receiver ‌Lelan Wilhoite (transfer from Florida A&M and former Siegel⁤ High School star), quarterback Myron McNair, running ⁣back Zack simmons Brown, ⁣and defensive tackles marlon ⁢Huff and Braelen Perry (transfer from⁢ Prairie⁤ View A&M). “It was good ‍experience for guys⁤ like that to see fast ball and it’ll help us ⁤down the road,” Barlow added.

The game also served‍ as an evaluation ‌period for TSU’s quarterbacks – Jonathan Palmer, Myron McNair, and Caleb McCreary. Palmer, a former Page High⁣ School standout, started the game, with McNair playing the second half and McCreary seeing action in the fourth quarter. Barlow stated the plan was to give each quarterback a chance to play, noting, “This was the perfect game to do it. Obviously, it was not a conference game and we were playing⁤ against a really good opponent.” Palmer completed⁣ 5 of 13 passes for 38 yards, McNair went ⁣2 for 4 for 12 yards, and McCreary was 1-for-1 for 11 yards.

Running back Kendric rhymes highlighted a‍ more positive ‍second-half performance from the Tigers. “At halftime we said,’They came out on⁣ fire so we have to match the energy,’ ” Rhymes said.⁤ “In the ⁤second half we regrouped, we recuperated and got everything together. Sometimes you have to play the game and have fun out⁣ there and that’s what we did.” Rhymes⁢ finished with 43 rushing yards on 12 carries and two receptions for 10 yards, after gaining just 15 yards on five carries in the first half.

Illinois vs. Duke Prediction: Bold Take on Fighting Illini Road Test

by David Harrison – Chief Editor September 5, 2025
written by David Harrison – Chief Editor

Illinois Faces Road Test at Duke, Needs Clock⁣ Control⁣ for Victory

DURHAM, N.C. – The Illinois Fighting Illini travel to Wallace Wade Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 6,for an 11 a.m. ⁣CT matchup against the Duke Blue Devils ⁢in Week 2⁣ of the collage football season. Coming off a dominant Week 1,‍ Illinois (1-0) aims to secure a key early-season road win against a Duke⁢ team (1-0) riding high on a recent‌ home-field advantage. The game will ‌air on ESPN.

Illinois’ success hinges on managing the game effectively ‌and avoiding a‌ shootout,‍ according to a scouting report. ‌The illini, returning 18 starters from last year’s 10-win ‍Citrus Bowl championship squad, including⁢ quarterback Luke Altmyer, must leverage their experience and a balanced offensive attack ‌to control the ⁤clock.Duke’s transfer quarterback, Darian Mensah, presents an early challenge. Mensah threw for 389 yards in‌ his Blue⁤ Devils debut ‌against Elon. Illinois will need to adjust defensively and capitalize on potential turnovers ⁤or special teams ‌plays to secure the victory.

Key to Victory for Illinois: The Illini need to⁢ establish a ‌consistent running game⁤ and utilize ‌short passes ‍to⁣ keep Duke’s offense off the field. Their⁤ experienced ⁣offensive line and Altmyer’s ⁣ability to orchestrate game-winning drives – he has ‍five career⁤ game-winning‍ drives, including ⁣three last season – will be crucial.

Duke boasts a potent passing attack led by Mensah and a strong home record, going 17-3⁣ at Wallace Wade⁣ Stadium since the start of‌ the 2022 season. Illinois’ defense must contain Mensah ⁢and his receiving corps, featuring⁣ transfers Andrel Anthony (Oklahoma) and Cooper Barkate (Harvard), alongside ‍returnee Que’Sean Brown.

Score Prediction: ⁢Illinois 27, Duke 24.

Universities scrambling to respond to hoax active shooter reports

by David Harrison – Chief Editor August 26, 2025

Villanova‌ Hoax & Rising Threat of ‘Swatting‘‍ Spark Calls for Stronger Laws, tech Solutions

Villanova, PA – ⁤August 26, 2025 – A‍ campus-wide blessing at⁣ Villanova University followed an active shooter hoax reported Wednesday, highlighting a risky and‌ escalating trend known as “swatting” – deliberately making false reports of emergencies to trigger a large police response. The incident at Villanova comes as authorities grapple with increasing swatting incidents nationwide, and experts are urging for stronger legal penalties and improved technology to combat the practice.

The ⁢hoax at Villanova, thankfully resulting in no injuries, underscores the real-world consequences⁣ of ⁢swatting, which can divert critical resources from genuine emergencies and put⁣ both the public and law enforcement at risk.

Swatting‍ involves falsely reporting a serious situation – such‍ as a hostage situation, bomb threat, or ⁤active shooter – to emergency services. The goal is ‌to provoke a SWAT team (Special Weapons and Tactics) response to a specific address, often targeting an individual. The practice gained notoriety in 2017 with the tragic death of Andrew Finch in Wichita, Kansas. Finch was fatally⁣ shot⁣ by police⁣ responding to a swatting call made by Tyler Barriss, who falsely reported a hostage situation at Finch’s home. Barriss, who did ⁢not know Finch, targeted an address he believed ⁣belonged to⁢ someone else. Barriss was sentenced ⁣to 20 years in prison for his role in Finch’s death, as reported by NBC News.

“The fact ‍is every hoax call like this diverts officers from real emergencies and real risks, and that’s the real tragedy of it,” said John DeCarlo, a former police chief and current professor at the University of New Haven’s Henry C.Lee⁤ College of Criminal Justice and Forensic ‌Science. “It takes public⁣ protection away were it’s needed.”

The FBI has begun treating swatting as a federal offense,a significant step in addressing the issue. However, authorities face challenges in tracking down perpetrators who often utilize technology to mask their voices, IP addresses, and⁢ identities.

Earlier this year,⁣ an‍ 18-year-old from Southern California was sentenced to four years in prison after⁣ being convicted of‍ making over 375‍ swatting and threat calls between August 2022 and january 2024,⁢ including false reports of⁢ mass shootings, according to the Department of ⁤Justice.

Experts emphasize the need for a⁣ multi-pronged approach to combat swatting. “It’s often like this⁤ with technology: We need to catch up,” explained‌ Hill, noting that some‍ states have stronger protections in place. “We need to get some laws on⁣ the books.”

The ‍rise in swatting incidents suggests authorities will continue⁤ to⁤ face a challenging landscape as ⁣they work to identify and prosecute those responsible. The potential ‍for real-world harm, as tragically demonstrated in Wichita, underscores the urgency‌ of addressing this dangerous trend.
