Virginia Tech Launches Initiative to Cultivate Sustainability Leaders
BLACKSBURG, VA – Virginia Tech is now accepting applications for its 2026 cohort of teh Executive Master of Natural Resources (XMNR) program, a unique graduate degree designed to equip professionals with the skills and network to drive impactful change in environmental sustainability. With a rapidly changing climate and increasing demand for sustainable solutions, the program aims to address a critical need for leaders capable of navigating complex environmental challenges.
The XMNR program, beginning in January, offers a master’s degree in natural resources alongside a graduate certificate in global sustainability. It distinguishes itself through real-world projects engaging cross-sector partners focused on areas like climate change, energy, water, food and agriculture, urbanization, and infrastructure. Virginia Tech employees are eligible for tuition assistance, potentially covering a significant portion of the program’s cost.
The program provides students with valuable credentials, practical competencies, strategic connections, and grounded confidence to lead change.Graduates gain access to a professional network and are prepared for career advancement within two years of completion.
Applications are reviewed in batches, with the next deadline approaching on November 1. Due to limited cohort size, prospective students are encouraged to apply promptly.
