Coastalโ Flood โWarning Issued for Delaware as Nor’easter Approaches
REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. – A coastal flood warning is in effect for Delaware as a nor’easter brings the threat of high tides and โฃdamaging winds โto the First State. Residents areโ urged to prepare for potential โคimpacts from flooding, โnotably in low-lying areas, and to secure property against โgusty winds expected through Sunday.
The combination of high tides and storm surge poses a notable risk to coastal communities. this event underscores Delaware’s vulnerabilityโฃ to nor’easters, powerful storms that develop along the Atlantic coast and frequently bring heavy precipitation, strong winds, and coastal flooding during the โfall andโ winter months.
High tides in Rehoboth Beach are predicted as โคfollows: Oct. 11 at 11:30 a.m., Oct. โฃ12โข at 12:17 a.m. and 12:36 p.m.,โข and โขOct.โข 13 at 1:21 a.m.โ and 1:40 p.m.
Authoritiesโข advise residents to clear sensitive areas prone to flooding and be aware โคof roads that may become impassable along rivers, bays, and seashores. โฃStaying โขupdated with information from local โand state authorities is also crucial. Sussex โCounty โofficials issued a statement on Oct. 10 recommending property โowners relocate vehicles from low-lying and flood-prone areas, secure loose objects, and clear storm drains and gutters.
In addition to coastal flooding, damaging windsโ are a concern statewide. The Atlantic coast could experience gusts up to โค60 miles per hour, while Wilmington andโค Dover mayโ see gusts around 40 miles per hour.
Steady rain is also forecast, with coastal โคSussex County potentially receiving up to โข2 inches of rain before the night of Oct. 13. Wilmington could receiveโ around an inch of rain during the same period. However, forecasters โขindicate the prolonged duration of the rainfall lessens the โฃimmediate risk of flooding from precipitation.
