The pandemic seems to have vanished, in the Como area the cases are continuously decreasing, the hospital registers few new admissions and the patients hospitalized in the last month have decreased from 46 to 17. The virus no longer causes serious damage. “Compared to two years ago and also compared to last year, the situation has certainly changed – explains Luigi Pusterla, head of Infectious Diseases of Asst Lariana – today in the whole Lombardy Region we have 25 serious patients hospitalized in intensive care and about 300 patients admitted to the ward. Limited numbers, primarily a consequence of the vaccination campaign. This despite the fact that an almost normal social life has resumed. Let’s think of schools, holidays or social places such as stadiums and cinemas».
Clinics
The blood for the clinics is running out: the Leverkusen clinics are not affected yet
Published: Friday 06/01/2023 05:54
The West German Red Cross is currently sounding the alarm. The DRK West blood donation service supplies around 25% of all clinics in Germany. But this supply is currently in danger.
The stock of blood preparations has reached a new low. The already small circle of regular donors has been hit hard by the current wave of the disease, a DRK West spokesperson said when we asked. Normally, the DRK would supply NRW clinics with blood for five days, currently it is only enough for one day. At the Schlebusch Clinic and at the St. Remigius everything is still in the green area, so both houses when we asked. However, even existing blood is used very sparingly. You know the problem, but you don’t have to postpone any currently scheduled operation. But that could change any day, especially if nothing changes in the blood donation situation, they say.

China is once again on the dark side of the pandemic. The number of infections has exploded since Beijing suddenly abandoned its zero-Covid strategy. Hospitals are overcrowded, medicines are scarce and funeral homes are no longer able to cope with the many corpses. According to estimates by British scientists, there are already one million new infections every day in China, as the new wave is only just beginning; more than 5,000 people may die every day.
