Tenerife Tragedy: Death Toll Climbs to Three After Roughโ Seas Sweep Beachgoers into the Ocean
Puerto โขde la Cruz, Tenerife – The death toll following aโ series of incidents involving โpowerful waves along the coast of Tenerife has risen to three, authorities confirmed today.โฃ The tragedies unfolded after a weather alert was issued warning of rough seas.
A 79-year-old Dutch tourist diedโ adn nine others were hospitalized after being swept into the sea in Puerto de la Cruz yesterday afternoon aroundโค 3:00 PM.In a separate incident,โฃ a 43-year-old local man โdied while fishingโ at Charco del Viento, a natural pool โฃcomplex west of Puerto de โla Cruz, shortlyโ before 4:45 PM. Overnight, the body โคof an unidentified man was discovered floating off El Cabezo beach in Granadilla, southwest of theโข island.

Theโ Civil Guard is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding his โdeath.
Earlier in the day,around 11:30 AM,six French holidaymakers sustainedโฃ injuries after being swept into the sea in Roque de las Bodegas. Authorities reported the group โฃhad disregarded warning signs โandโค ventured too close to the water’s edge. While none of the โขinjuries were life-threatening,five were โtaken toโค hospital,including one โขvia air โฃambulance. The group consisted of three men and three women who were assistedโ byโ bystandersโ in exiting โthe water.
The nationality of the man found at El Cabezo beach remains unknown. He was discovered โ”floatingโข in the water” and authorities are investigatingโ whether his death is linked to the perilousโ wave conditions.
Canary Islands โขofficials had urged both residents andโ tourists to exercise “maximum caution” along โขtheโฃ coast, advisingโ against standing near piers or breakwaters and warning againstโข takingโ photographs or videos close to breaking waves. The alertโ regarding sea conditions was initiallyโ issued on โFriday.
Between January and October, 54 people โhave โdied from drowning in the Canary Islands, according to official figures.
