Former Spartanburg County Sheriff Faces Ethics Charges Over Alleged Misuse of Funds
SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. – Former Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck โคWright is facing 60 state ethics charges, โalongside federalโ charges,โค stemming from allegationsโ he misused a county-issued credit card for personal expenses totaling over $17,000,โฃ according toโ recently released documents from the South Carolina โฃStateโค Ethicsโ commission.
A 19-pageโ report details numerous purchases made with the card at over 100 different businesses. The documents allege โคWright used taxpayer money to purchase 92 packs of โcigarettes at Dollar General. He is also accused of โฃspending more than $1,300 on games through the Apple App Store,including titles like Huntwise,ramp Car โJumping,and Royal Match.โฃ
Further alleged โขpersonal spending includes subscriptions to Sirius XM, over $5,000 on food – with โmeaningful amounts โspentโข at fuddruckers ($900), chick-fil-A ($345), and Super King Buffetโ ($281) – and $946 at Best Buy, where โคan iPad wasโ purchased. Theโ report also indicates Wright incurred $210 in penalties for exceeding his credit card limit โขand spent $71 at CVS on an at-home drug test โkit.
Wright โis scheduled to appear at a hearing in โFebruary toโ address theโข charges. His attorney has notโ yet responded to requests for comment from Fox Carolina.
