Nancy CHRU: Colon Cancer Awareness & Screening Events – March 2026

Nancy, France – The Centre Hospitalier Régional Universitaire (CHRU) de Nancy has launched its annual “Mars Bleu” (Blue March) campaign, a month-long initiative dedicated to raising awareness and promoting early detection of colorectal cancer. This year’s efforts include a partnership with local businesses through Les Vitrines de Nancy, offering specially baked “biscuits bavards” from Marinette bakery, with proceeds benefiting the Fédération de Cancérologie at the CHRU.

Colorectal cancer is the second most common cancer among women and the third most common among men in France, with over 47,000 new cases diagnosed annually. However, early detection dramatically improves outcomes, with a 90% survival rate when identified promptly. Despite a national screening program offering free, bi-annual immunological tests to individuals aged 50-74, participation rates remain at around 33%.

The campaign’s kickoff includes a public conference-debate titled “Bougez-vous le côlon” (Get Moving on Your Colon), scheduled for Wednesday, March 4th, at the Muséum-Aquarium de Nancy. Two specialists in hepato-gastro-enterology from the CHRU de Nancy will lead the discussion, covering preventative measures, treatment advancements, and patient testimonials. The event is part of the larger “A votre santé” (To Your Health) initiative organized by the University of Lorraine.

Throughout March, the CHRU de Nancy will host a series of events aimed at increasing public awareness. On Saturday, March 7th, a prevention stand will be set up during the SLUC Nancy Basket vs. Chalon-Sur-Saône basketball game at the Palais des Sports Jean Weille, featuring health professionals and a raffle. A prevention village will be held on Tuesday, March 17th, at the Institut Louis Mathieu on the Brabois site, bringing together representatives from the Ligue contre le Cancer, CRCDC, Mon réseau Cancer colorectal, and GENECAL, alongside CHRU specialists in various fields including hepato-gastro-enterology, nutrition, and addiction.

Further events include a “Course Nature” and popular walk in Ludres on Saturday, March 21st, organized by the association ALTER, and a “Marche/Course Bleue” (Blue Walk/Run) and prevention village in Ludres on Friday, March 27th, with participation from CHRU professionals. A unique addition to this year’s campaign is a specially choreographed equestrian show on the theme of Mars Bleu, scheduled for Saturday, March 28th, and Sunday, March 29th, at the Ménil Saint-Michel. The show was written and staged by the Ménil Saint-Michel troupe in collaboration with CHRU professionals.

The CHRU de Nancy emphasizes that adopting a healthy lifestyle – including a balanced diet, regular physical activity, and reduced alcohol and tobacco consumption – can significantly lower the risk of developing colorectal cancer.
