Fight Breaks Out Over limited-edition Starbucksโ ‘Bearista’ Cup in Houston
Aโ limited-edition โstarbucks cup โshaped like a โคbear sparked a disturbance atโฃ aโ Houston-area Starbucks โlocation โon November 6th, leading to a call for โlawโข enforcement. Harrisโข County deputies with constableโ Mark herman’s Office responded toโ a Starbucksโ in the 3000 block of FM 1960 โฃnear Aldine Westfield Road around 5:03โฃ a.m. after reports of individuals refusing to leave the store andโฃ fighting over the new “Bearista” cup.
The “Glass โStarbucks Bearistaยฎ Coldโฃ Cup,” pricedโฃ at $29.95, features a bear-shaped glass design with a straw and โa โคfestive green beanie. Starbucks had announced the release of itsโฃ holiday โmerchandise line, including the Bearista cup, on November 6th. The companyโค promised the cup would “bringโ instant joy to every sip.”
According to a Facebook post from Constable mark Herman, deputies โwere dispatched โ”to restore peace before anyone spilled their latte or lost โtheir teddy bear.”
Despite shipping moreโ Bearista โขcups to stores than almost โany other holiday merchandise item, Starbucks acknowledged the highโข demand. “despite shipping more Bearista cups to coffeehouses than almost any other merchandise item this holiday season, the Bearista cup and someโข other items โsold โฃout fast,” Starbucks โtold NBC News inโฃ an email. “We โฃunderstand many customers were excited about the Bearistaโค cup andโ apologize for the disappointment this may haveโ caused.”
The cups are now โขappearing on resaleโ sites for hundreds of dollars. Starbucks customers still have an opportunity to obtain a special โcup on Novemberโข 13th, which is Red Cup Day, where โฃa grande-sized reusable red holiday cup isโ given to customers who purchase any size holiday beverage.
