The โhong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA) โaffirmed itsโ respectโค for playwright Candace Chong Mui-ngam and stated itโ has been inโข contact with herโ followingโ accusations of censorship regarding her interview โfor a 40th-anniversary alumni promotion. The academy’s response comes after Chong published an open letterโ onโฃ Monday detailing her concerns over the unreleased interview.
chong was one of 11 alumni invited in May of last year โคbyโฃ HKAPA’s โstudent โฃrecruitment and โขcommunity engagement office โto participate โขin the promotional series, which also included interviews with actor Michael Ning and singer Chiu Sin-hang. While the other interviewsโค were published, โchong’s, filmed in June, remained unseen.
according to Chong’s letter, โacademy staff contacted her โthree daysโ after sheโ inquired โฃabout the missing interview, explaining โขthat all alumni interviews had been uploaded to the Chinese social media โplatformโข RedNote in January – except hers, which theyโ said could not be uploaded. HKAPA has not โคyet publicly explainedโค the reason for withholding Chong’sโ interview.
