Daniel Jacob Hernandez, 27, faces mounting legal challenges after being served with additional felony warrants while already detained in the Laramie County Detention Center, according to court and sheriff’s office records. Hernandez was initially arrested at the Derby Club Gaming Parlor on January 23rd on a misdemeanor warrant for failure to appear in Cheyenne Municipal Court.
The case has rapidly expanded since that initial arrest. On January 27th, Hernandez was served with a felony warrant for probation violation related to prior burglary and resisting arrest charges. A subsequent review of his case on February 11th led to two further felony warrants from Laramie County Circuit Court, alleging burglary and theft – both considered fifth or subsequent offenses under Wyoming law. These charges carry potential penalties of up to 10 years imprisonment and a $10,000 fine, or both.
Court documents allege that Hernandez took property from a vehicle around December 31, 2025, and from another individual on or about January 5, 2026. His initial court appearance on the new burglary and theft charges took place on February 12th before Judge TJ Forwood, who appointed a public defender to represent him.
During the February 12th hearing, the state requested a $3,000 cash bond, citing Hernandez’s revoked felony probation. Judge Forwood ultimately set bond at $5,000 cash, stating conditions of release would be determined if bond is posted. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for February 20th at 10:30 a.m.
Hernandez’s legal troubles extend beyond Laramie County. Records indicate he was also booked on a warrant for theft out of Larimer County, Colorado, on January 22nd, following a previous arrest on January 8th and a second burglary charge filed while in custody on January 21st. That earlier burglary charge stemmed from an incident on January 3rd at the Best Western on Hutchins Drive, where a Glock 19 handgun and holster were stolen from a 2019 Ford F-150. Police connected Hernandez to the crime through security footage showing a man matching his description exiting a 1962 Chevrolet Impala. Additional stolen property, including tools and a jacket reported missing in another burglary, was recovered from the vehicle.
According to Cheyenne police, Hernandez initially provided a false name during contact, further complicating the investigation. The Laramie County Detention Center reported 3,498 bookings and 3,510 releases in 2024, with an average daily jail population of 205 inmates.
Hernandez remains in custody at the Laramie County Detention Facility.
