Hyderabad: Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations in Hyderabad took a notable turn on Saturday, September 6, as trucks carrying Ganesh idols were decorated with โขimagery referencing “Operation Sindoor,” a โrecent Indianโ military action. The โฃthemedโฃ trucks were observed passing through the historic Charminar area during the city’s annual immersion procession.
Operation Sindoor refers to the Indianโข government’s military response in May โค2025 against Pakistan, launched in the wakeโฃ of the Pahalgam attack. The inclusion โขof this theme on the Ganesh idol trucks reflects a current wave of national sentiment and remembrance of the military โoperation amidst the festive atmosphere.
Elsewhere in the city, the 69-foot tall Khairatabad Ganeshโข idolโข was โขimmersed in โHussain Sagar Lake before noon. Theโ procession route began at โฃKhairatabad Libary and proceeded via Telephone Bhavan, Saifabad, and the Telangana secretariat. Thousands of devotees lined the โstreets to witness the event.
Approximatelyโ 50,000 Ganesh idols were immersed in hussain Sagar Lake, contributing to a total of 1.4 lakh idols immersedโฃ throughout Greater Hyderabad over a 40-hour โperiod. Authorities deployed notable resources for safety and cleanup, including โnine boats, Disaster Response Force teams, 200 swimmers, over 29,000 police personnel, and โ15,000 sanitation workers.
