Title: Purbaya to Secretly Boost Funds to Indonesian State Banks

by Priya Shah – Business Editor October 13, 2025
written by Priya Shah – Business Editor

Jakarta – The Indonesian government plans to discreetly inject additional funds into two state-owned banks, bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) and Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI), according to Finance ‍Minister Purbaya yudhi Sadewa. The move‌ aims to boost economic liquidity without triggering public concern, ⁢following an initial placement of IDR 200 trillion across five state-owned banks.

Purbaya indicated the decision stems from a desire to accelerate base money (M0) growth towards an ideal rate of 20%, currently standing at 13% after ⁤rising from near⁢ 0%. He emphasized that these fund transfers are not fiscal expansion or budget alterations, but rather an optimization of existing‍ funds to stimulate private sector growth. “Ideally it would be 20% less. I still have ⁣another IDR 250 trillion in the central bank, we’ll ‌see what it’s like,” Purbaya stated.

To⁢ avoid potential ⁣misinterpretations and public backlash, Purbaya ⁣confirmed ‌future placements will be conducted without public announcement. ⁣”Even if ‍we wont to add‍ more, we won’t tell ⁤you now ⁣because the money operation is normal again, because then many⁣ people will protest⁤ ‘Purbaya ‍is moving money carelessly, using the budget carelessly’,‍ because⁢ they don’t understand that I’m just moving money, it has nothing⁣ to do with changes to the budget,” he explained. “I didn’t change the budget at all, nor did I carry out fiscal expansion. This ‍is just optimizing the money for economic growth so that the private sector can grow.”

The ⁤Minister ⁢added that ⁤only regional development banks (BPD) ⁤will be ⁢excluded from this secretive‌ approach‍ to⁢ further⁣ fund allocation.

Title: New Orleans Mayor Election: Corruption, Crime, and Key Candidates

by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor October 11, 2025
written by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor

New Orleans Voters Choose Next Leader Amidst Corruption ⁢concerns and calls for Reform

New Orleans residents ⁤will head to teh polls this Saturday to elect a new mayor, concluding LaToya Cantrell‘s second term which has been shadowed by corruption allegations. The election marks the⁤ beginning of‌ a series of significant ⁣mayoral races across the U.S., with contests also scheduled in New York and Detroit in November.

The vote takes place against a backdrop of‍ escalating concerns about ‍crime in the city, prompting ⁤calls – including from former⁣ President⁤ Donald Trump – for the deployment of the National ‍Guard. Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry⁤ has formally requested this ⁣intervention, though a decision from the federal goverment is⁢ still pending.

Cantrell, a democrat barred from ‌seeking re-election due to term limits, has largely remained out of the ‍public eye since ‍federal charges ‍were⁣ filed in August. These allegations center around accusations that she concealed⁤ a romantic relationship ⁣with her former bodyguard, ‌Jeffrey ⁤Vappie, and improperly used taxpayer‌ funds to finance personal trips – including visits to wineries ‍- with him. Cantrell has ‌denied ⁣any wrongdoing regarding charges of conspiracy, fraud, and obstruction⁣ of justice.

This isn’t the first time ‍a‍ new Orleans‍ mayor⁤ has faced legal scrutiny. Former Mayor Ray Nagin was sentenced to ten years in prison in 2014 following convictions⁢ for bribery,‍ money laundering, and fraud committed during‍ his time in office from 2002 to 2010.

The current field of⁤ over ten candidates is largely focused on a⁤ message⁣ of restoring stability to City⁣ Hall. ⁤leading the pack in‌ fundraising is Helena Moreno, the ‌current City Council Vice President and ⁢a former journalist, who⁢ has amassed over $3.4 million ⁤for⁣ her campaign. State ⁤Senator Royce Duplessis and‍ veteran councilman Oliver Thomas are ‌also ‌considered strong‌ contenders. Notably, Thomas previously served 37 months ‍in⁤ jail after ‌being convicted of bribery in 2007.

The election will be decided either by a candidate securing over 50% of the vote, or by a runoff election ‍between the top two vote-getters on⁢ November 15th.

Moreno, the daughter of Mexican immigrants and‍ a petrochemical executive, is campaigning on a platform centered around improving public safety, bolstering city services, and fostering economic advancement. Thomas has pledged to prioritize the needs ‍of⁤ underserved communities,‌ while Duplessis is⁤ appealing to the city’s majority-Black electorate, positioning himself as an outsider capable of fixing a “dysfunctional” municipal⁤ government.

beyond the mayoral race, Orleans Parish Sheriff Susan Hutson is also seeking re-election. Her tenure has been marked by criticism following a high-profile‌ jailbreak in May, culminating in the recent capture of the final escapee, convicted murderer Derrick Groves, in Atlanta. Hutson faces ⁢several challengers critical of her jail management.

A typically low-profile race for Clerk of Criminal Court has ⁣also garnered significant⁤ attention. Challenger Calvin Duncan, who‍ spent nearly three⁤ decades in prison for a murder conviction before⁤ being released in 2011 after presenting new evidence of his innocence, is advocating for improvements to the city’s criminal court records system. However, incumbent⁣ Darren Lombard ‍and Louisiana’s Attorney General dispute Duncan’s claim of exoneration, citing ‌a plea deal he ⁢accepted. While his convictions were vacated by ⁣a judge⁣ in 2021,and he is listed in the National Registry of Exonerations, the debate⁢ over his case continues.

Nvidia CEO Says Trump’s Visa Fees Block Immigration

by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor October 9, 2025
written by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang⁢ Says Family‌ Likely Couldn’t ‌Afford US Immigration Under Trump-Era Visa Fees

WASHINGTON⁢ D.C. - Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has stated his family likely would not have⁣ been able to immigrate to the United States under recently proposed immigration policies implemented during the‌ Donald Trump administration. ‌The policies ⁢include a USD 100,000 fee per H-1B temporary work visa, granted to ‌foreign professionals with specialized skills.

Huang,⁣ born in Taiwan and raised in Thailand, ⁣moved to the US with his sister ‌at age nine, followed two years later by his parents. He currently has an estimated net⁣ worth of USD 164 billion (IDR 2,700 trillion).

“I ⁢don’t think my family will be able to pay the 100 ⁤thousand⁢ dollar fee, so the prospect for my family ⁢and for myself to come here may never happen,”⁣ Huang said in a CNBC interview, as reported by detikINET.

The proposed fee increase has sparked debate within the US technology industry, ‌which relies heavily on foreign workers, notably from India and China.‍ Data from US Citizenship and Immigration Services ⁢shows Amazon sponsors⁤ the most‍ H-1B visas ⁢- over 10,000 in fiscal year 2025 – followed by ⁣Microsoft, Meta, Apple, and Google, each with ⁤over 4,000 approvals.

Huang emphasized the importance of immigration to the American ideal. “Immigration is the foundation of the American dream. The idea that anyone can come to America and, through hard work and a little talent, build a better future for themselves,” ⁢he stated, adding his ‍parents sought opportunities and a better life ⁢for their ⁣family in the⁣ US.

Nvidia currently sponsors approximately 1,400 work visas and Huang confirmed the company will continue to cover H-1B visa costs for its ‌overseas employees, while hoping for future policy improvements.‍

Despite his personal circumstances,⁢ Huang expressed optimism that the changes would still⁢ allow ⁢the US to attract top global talent.

Other tech leaders have voiced support for ‌the policy. Netflix CEO⁣ Reed Hastings called the⁤ new fee rules “a great solution,” stating they would focus H-1B visas on high-value employment, eliminate the lottery ⁣system, ‍and provide visa holders with⁤ certainty. OpenAI ⁣CEO Sam Altman similarly stated,⁣ “We ⁣need to⁣ attract the brightest people to this country. Simplifying the process and providing financial incentives⁢ is the right step.”

CDC Alters Childhood Vaccine Recommendations Amid Skepticism

by Emma Walker – News Editor September 19, 2025
written by Emma Walker – News Editor

Breaking News: Advisory Panel Shifts ⁤Childhood Immunization Guidance, Sparking Controversy

WASHINGTON – A key advisory panel to the centers for Disease‍ Control and Prevention (CDC) has altered its recommendations for the measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella (MMRV) vaccine schedule, a move that has ignited debate over the future of childhood⁢ immunizations in‍ the United States. The changes ‌occurred during a recent meeting of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), now chaired by Robert F.⁤ Kennedy Jr.’s nominee,‌ Dr. ⁤Reneé Monarez.

Monarez indicated the committee⁣ would be making changes⁢ to ⁢the vaccine schedule this ⁣month without seeing scientific evidence for them. She did not specify during the hearing what those changes would be.

ACIP’s recommendations only become official after the CDC director approves them. With Monarez out, that obligation now goes to Health ⁢and Human Services deputy secretary Jim O’Neill, who is serving as the CDC’s acting director.

Senator Bill Cassidy (R-LA), chair⁢ of the Senate committee that oversees HHS and who cast the deciding vote for kennedy’s nomination, ⁤expressed deep skepticism about⁢ the revised recommendations. “No,” Cassidy stated when asked by reporters whether the U.S. public should trust any changes ACIP recommends to‌ the childhood immunization schedule.

Cassidy’s⁤ vote for Kennedy followed a private pledge from Kennedy that he would maintain the CDC immunization schedule.Prior to entering politics,Cassidy,a liver specialist, spearheaded a public-private partnership providing no-cost Hepatitis B vaccinations for 36,000 Louisiana children.

The shift in ACIP guidance comes as trust in⁢ CDC guidelines faces increasing scrutiny. The American Academy of Pediatrics announced earlier this year that it would publish its own evidence-based ‍vaccination schedule, differing from the CDC’s on ‍flu and COVID shots. California recently enacted a law granting the state the authority to establish its own immunization schedule and has partnered with Oregon⁢ and washington to issue joint recommendations for COVID-19,⁤ flu, and RSV⁤ vaccines.

Despite the potential for diverging standards, an association representing many U.S. health insurers announced its members will continue ⁢to cover all vaccines recommended by the ⁣previous ACIP through the end of 2026, stating, “the evidence-based approach to coverage of immunizations will remain consistent.” However, coverage beyond 2026 remains uncertain.
