Cuban โInfielder Cรฉsar Prieto to Debut in MLB with Cardinals
ST. LOUIS – โฃ Cรฉsar Prieto isโ set to become the 33rd Cuban player to appear in a Major League Baseball season, making โฃhis debutโ with the St. Louis Cardinals. The Cardinals โขannounced Prieto’s call-up,โข marking the culmination of a journey that began with a departure from the Cuban national team.
Prieto’s path to โthe MLB was initiatedโ after โparticipatingโค inโข a pre-Olympic โฃbaseball tournament โฃinโ Florida from May โ31 to Juneโข 5, โค2021. leaving the โofficial Cuban delegationโค during thatโ tournament โresulted in a โdesignation ofโ “desertion” by the Cuban Federation, precluding him from โคfuture participation in international competitions for Cuba.Shortlyโฃ after, in 2022, Prieto signed โขaโ professional contract โขwith theโข Baltimore Orioles, who afterwardโ traded him to โthe St. โขLouis Cardinals โassociation. He spent four years developing within the cardinals’ minor league system, most recently withโ the Memphis Redbirds,โค theirโ Triple-A โaffiliate.โข
