Hostage Release Deal Reached Between Israel and Hamas, Trump Says Release Expected “Monday or Tuesday”
an agreement in principle has been reached between Israel and Hamas for the release of hostages, though procedural details remain to be finalized, regional sources confirmed to CBS News Wednesday. President Trump announced the agreement on his Truth Social platform, stating, “This is a GREAT Day for the Arab and Muslim World, israel, all surrounding Nations, and the United States of America.”
During a Wednesday night interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity,Mr. Trump indicated that hostages would “probably” be released on Monday or Tuesday, U.S. time, and that the exchange would include the remains of deceased hostages held by Hamas.
The President also suggested that further elements of his recently unveiled 20-point Israel-Hamas peace plan-including a committee to oversee governance in Gaza-could be implemented, though he did not specify a timeline.”I think you’re going to see people getting along, and you’ll see Gaza being rebuilt,” Mr. Trump said. “People are going to be taken care of. It’s going to be a different world.”
Majed al-Ansari, an advisor to Qatari Prime minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani, corroborated the deal Wednesday, posting on X that an agreement had been reached on “the first phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, which will lead to ending the war, the release of Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners, and the entry of aid.”
Sources indicate that following the resolution of outstanding procedural issues, the release process is expected to begin within 48 hours.
