Island Resort & casino Unveils Expanded Convention Center and Golf Clubhouse

The Island Resort & Casino in Harris, Michigan, has officially opened its expanded convention center and upgraded golf clubhouse, promising enhanced experiences for event organizers and golf enthusiasts alike. The grand opening, held recently, showcased the new facilities and their potential to attract larger events and provide superior amenities.

The event featured speeches from key figures involved in the project, tours of the facilities, and entertainment for guests. The expansion is expected to substantially boost the resort’s appeal as a premier destination for conventions, weddings, and other large gatherings.

New Convention Center: A Premier U.P. Venue

The new convention center is designed to accommodate larger events, including business conventions, and is strategically located between Lower Michigan and Northern Wisconsin. This positions the Island Resort & Casino to meet the growing demand for multi-day events in the region.

Tony Mancilla, Island Resort & Casino General Manager, emphasized the center’s modern design, high-capacity kitchen, and multiple event bars. The center can seat approximately 750 to 800 people, significantly more than the old breakout area, which seated about 480. The high ceilings and versatile space are expected to make it the premier convention center in the Upper Peninsula (U.P.) and extending down to Green Bay.

According to Dave Rousseau, the enhancements provide golfers and customers with a better view of the ninth and 18th green, adding to the overall ambiance of the golf course.

Thomas Wahlstrom,project manager for Gundlach Champion,highlighted the challenges of erecting the structure during a especially cold and wet period,while Scott Herioux,CFO of the Hannahville Indian Community,emphasized the benefits of the tribe’s growth for the entire central region.
