Peruvianโข Authorities Arrest โข24 Alleged Members of Criminal Network โLinked to ‘Aragua โTrain’
LIMA,Peru – Peruvian authorities have detained 24 individualsโค allegedly connected to a criminal organizationโข dubbed ‘The Western,’ โคwhich prosecutors say โis linkedโข to the transnational ‘Aragua Train’ network.โข The arrests,โข announced September 9, 2025, are the resultโ of an inquiry into a group accused of extortion, โขviolence, andโฃ murder targeting transport companies in northern Lima.
The Public ministry’s Office Against Organized Criminality executed โthe judicial preliminary detention measures against the suspects, โคcomprised of Peruvian and Venezuelan citizens. According to the fiscal thesis, the organization, โalso known as ‘Village II,’ allegedly infiltrated WhatsApp groups of transport โขcompanies to demand daily or weekly payments under threat of death. Failure to โcomply reportedly resulted in attacks on drivers and vehicles, โwith โat least fiveโ deaths attributed to the group’s actions.
The criminal network โallegedly operated with “ferocity and violence” in Lima Norte districts, โtargeting owners, partners, drivers, and collectors ofโ various transportโข companies. Beyond extortion, investigators found evidence of money laundering โฃthrough shell companies, digital accounts, cryptocurrencies, and othreโ financial mechanisms, withโค illicit funds allegedly routed to venezuela and โColombia before returning to Peru.This action followsโ theโค earlier disruption โขof ‘DESA’ in Februaryโฃ ofโ this year, with authorities stating the criminal โคband of Venezuelan origin reorganized, shifting itsโฃ membersโฃ and leadership. โThe PNP reportedโข the organization employed a “money collection system based on murder, sending messages and/or psychological impact videos, for the aggrieved.”
