Beyond happiness: Experts Reveal the Key to Finding Daily Joy
Table of Contents
New research highlights a crucial distinction between fleeting joy adn lasting happiness, offering practical strategies for boosting well-being in today’s demanding world. As schedules fill and pressures mount, cultivating moments of genuine joy can feel increasingly elusive. Though, leading psychologists emphasize that joy and happiness aren’t interchangeable – and understanding this difference is paramount to a more fulfilling life.
While joy is defined as a brief emotional response to positive experiences, happiness is a more sustained state linked to overall well-being, inner peace, and personal satisfaction. Positive psychology suggests a truly flourishing life integrates positive emotions, a sense of commitment, a clear purpose, and strong, healthy relationships.
“Its vital to move away from the expectation of constant happiness,” explains Katiuska Aliaga, a psychologist at the Peruvian University of Applied Sciences (UPC). “We all face challenges, and routines can become overwhelming. The focus shouldn’t be on avoiding tough moments, but on intentionally creating space for enjoyment, discovering purpose in our activities, and surrounding ourselves with supportive people.this, in turn, positively impacts others, creating a ripple effect of well-being.”
Simple Habits for Daily Joy
Aliaga recommends incorporating these actionable habits into your daily routine, even amidst a busy schedule:
- Practise Mindful Presence: Fully engaging in an activity with complete awareness reduces anxiety and increases satisfaction.
- Embrace Self-Compassion: Treat yourself with kindness during setbacks, using positive self-talk to shift your emotional state.
- Acknowledge Small Wins: Internally celebrate accomplishments,no matter how minor,to boost motivation and self-esteem.
- Incorporate Breathing & Movement: Dedicate a few minutes to conscious breathing exercises or gentle stretching to relax both body and mind.
The Foundations of Lasting happiness
Happiness, according to experts, isn’t a distant destination but a byproduct of finding meaning in everyday life and pursuing a sense of purpose. It’s an internal state, not dependent on external validation.
Activities that contribute to this state include:
- Pursuing Passions: Dedicate time to hobbies and activities you genuinely enjoy, whether solo or with others.
- Connecting with Nature: Spend time outdoors and cultivate healthy relationships with the natural world.
- Regular Physical Activity: Incorporate exercise, such as a brisk 40-minute walk, into your routine.
“Well-being isn’t about grand gestures, but about conscious choices,” Aliaga emphasizes. “We frequently enough believe happiness is contingent on external factors or other people, but it’s within our control.”

Trucks with medicines and health material will enter Gaza for the second time since March
Several trucks with medicines and health material of the World Health Organization (WHO) will enter the Gaza Strip on Tuesday, the Ministry of Health of the Enclave said in a message, which asked the population to protect the shipments to ensure that they reach the hospitals.
According to Gazatis Health sources, today will be the second time that health supplies and blood bags for transfusions have come since March, when Israel imposed a total humanitarian block in Gaza before breaking the high fire in force since January.
“The articles that are expected to arrive are of great importance (…) to continue providing medical attention to the injured and sick and save lives,” the ministry said in their message.
The lack of medical and fuel resources is leading to the Gazatí health system, according to various international organizations and the health authorities themselves in the strip, despite the fact that Israel softened somewhat the restrictions at the entry of supplies in May.
In fact, in the northern region of the Strip there is no operational hospital since last June because of the constant Israeli bombings and the army evacuation orders.
Meanwhile, the Palestine Red Crescent reported Tuesday that one of its clinics in Ciudad de Gaza, that of the Zeitún neighborhood, has ceased its operations for the bombings in the area, “which are a serious threat to the safety of medical equipment and patients.”
“The clinic had been attending thousands of patients, especially as the area was increasingly saturated with displaced residents of East of Gaza after the evacuation orders issued by the Israeli occupation,” the group denounced in a statement.
The organization also warned that “with the closing of the clinic, thousands of civilians will be forced to walk long distances to access medical care or vaccinate their children.”
Since the beginning of the Israeli offensive, Israeli evacuation orders and military operations have forced 18 red crescent clinics in the enclave, according to the group.
