Coco Gauff Achieves Doubles Milestone, Securing 10th Title in Montreal
MONTREAL, CANADA – August 12, 2023 – Coco Gauff has added a 10th doubles title to her career, mirroring her current tally of singles championships, after a victory at the National Bank Open in Montreal. The American teamed with US compatriot, Hayley Kessler, to claim the crown.
This achievement comes just over a month after Gauff’s notable singles triumph at the French Open in June, where she defeated Aryna sabalenka to secure her tenth singles title. The win at Roland Garros marked her first Grand Slam singles championship.
Gauff previously won the Canadian Open doubles title in 2022,partnering with Jessica pegula in Toronto. This year’s victory in Montreal represents her second Canadian Open doubles title overall.
In the final, Gauff and Kessler defeated the pairing of Taylor Townsend and Zhang Shuai. following the match,Gauff publicly acknowledged her opponents,expressing her respect for both Townsend and Zhang,highlighting their established careers and sportsmanship. The final score was 6-4, 6-2.
Hayley Kessler, currently ranked 64th in doubles as of August 14, 2023, secured her first WTA doubles title with this win. Gauff is currently ranked 7th in doubles and 6th in singles (as of August 14, 2023).
The National Bank Open, a WTA 1000 event, took place at IGA stadium in Montreal from August 7-13, 2023, featuring a total prize pool of $2,788,462.
