Egyptian Health Ministry Hostsโ Workshop โto Equip Mediaโค with Reproductive Health facts
Cairo, September 18, 2025 – The Egyptian โฃMinistry of โHealth convened a workshop today aimed at bolstering media coverage of reproductive health issues and supporting โthe nation’s family advancement goals, aligning with โขEgypt‘s Vision 2030. The initiative seeks to empower journalists with accurate information toโข counter misinformation and โpromote informed health โdecisions.
Ministry spokesman Hossam โAbdelโค Ghaffar โstated the workshop addressed critical topics including family planning, spacing births, breastfeeding, and reducing unnecessary cesarean โdeliveries. He โคemphasized the need to addressโ “rumors, false concepts and social norms that hinderโฃ the access of correct information to families, which negativelyโ affect the health of mothers and children.”
The workshopโฃ focused on enabling the mediaโ to support Egyptian families inโข reducing unjustified caesarean sections, highlightingโ the importance of the frist 1,000 days of a mother and child’s life, and reinforcingโ reproductive rights โคgrounded in scientific evidence. Abdel โขGhaffar underscored the media’s “pivotal role in the formation of โขpublic awareness,” advocating for “accurate language and approvedโฃ terms”โ in reporting.
Deputy Minister of Health, โฃDr. Abla Al-Alfi, affirmed the state’s commitment to accurate health information โdissemination and outlined the urgentโ population and development plan launched inโฃ Januaryโค 2025. Thisโข plan utilizes 29 population indicators โค- encompassing health โขand education -โฃ to categorize governorates as “green” (aboveโ 70%), “yellow” (50-70%), and “red” (below 50%). The plan’s objectiveโฃ is to reduce the total reproductive rate to 2.1% by โ2027.
Dr. Al-Alfi also highlighted the โsuccess of the “A Alpha Golden โขDay” initiative in reducing unplanned pregnancies, improving breastfeeding and safe birth practices, and โproviding family counseling. The initiative provides integrated care โคfrom pregnancy โขthru the โchild’sโข second โyear,aiming to ensure โคmaternal andโ child health and foster strong families.
Jermin Haddad, representative of the united Nationsโ Population Fund,โ confirmed the organization’s partnership with the Ministry and the National population โCouncil โฃto โstrengthen media messagingโฃ on reproductive health, particularly regarding cesarean deliveries and the meaning of the “thousand golden day.”โฃ Haddad stressed that investing in maternal and child health strengthensโค the โoverallโ health system andโ emphasized the media’s role in โsimplifying โmessages to encourage positive practices and societal well-being.
