BSW to drop Sahra Wagenknecht‘s Name, New Leadership Proposal Emerges
Magdeburg, Germany – November 10, 2025 – The Alliance sahra Wagenknecht (BSW) party is set to undergo a significantโฃ rebranding, distancing itself โfrom its founder and prominent figure, Sahra Wagenknecht. The move, announced in recent days, will โsee the party adopt a new fullโฃ name while retaining the BSW abbreviation. Aโฃ final decision will be made at a party conference in Magdeburg on December 6th and 7th.
The shift comes as the โBSW seeks to broaden its appeal beyond Wagenknecht’sโ personal brand. While Wagenknecht โremains theโค party’s defining face and most recognizable leader, the leadership believes a โคname change is necessary forโ long-term growth and to emphasize the party’s coreโฃ principles. The BSW, founded earlier this year, currently holds โคseats in the European Parliament and is โaiming to gain โฃdepiction in German state and federal elections.
The partyโ leadership โhas proposed โ”Alliance for Social Justice and โEconomic Reason” as the new official long form.โ However, the Rhineland-Palatinate regional association has put forward an โขalternative: โ”Citizens create change – reason โand justice.” Both proposals aim to encapsulate the BSW’s platform, which focuses on social equity and pragmatic economic policies. The outcome of the vote at the December conference willโ determine the party’s official identity moving forward.
