New mexico Holds Off Nevada in Tight 24-22 Mountain West Contest
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – New Mexico narrowly defeated Nevada 24-22 in a back-and-forth Mountain West Conference matchup Saturday afternoon. The Lobos‘ victory moves them to a winning record while Nevada continues to search for consistency in conference play.
The game was a tale of two halves, with New Mexico building an early lead and Nevada attempting a late rally. Despite a strong receiving performance from Nevada’s Dakota Thomas, who recorded eight catches for 67 yards, the Wolf Pack were hampered by turnovers and ultimately unable to overcome the Lobos on their home field. this loss drops Nevada to 2-5 overall and 0-3 in Mountain West play, increasing the pressure as they navigate a challenging schedule.
New Mexico established a lead, capitalizing on two Nevada fumbles lost during the game.The Wolf Pack committed three fumbles total, contributing to their struggles to maintain possession. Nevada quarterback Brendon Lewis completed 18 of 33 passes for 218 yards and one touchdown.
Nevada will return home to host Boise State on Friday, Oct. 24, for their homecoming game. The Broncos (5-2, 3-0 MW) are coming off a dominant 56-31 victory over previously undefeated UNLV.
