Jakarta – A TNI intelligence officer,Major SS,was briefly detained by Brimob personnel during a chaotic exhibition in Jakarta on Thursday,August 28,2025,after being initially suspected of participating in the protest due to his plainclothes status. The incident and subsequent conversation between Major SS and Brimob officers were detailed by TNI Head of Information Center Brigadier General (Mar) Freddy Ardianzah during a press conference at TNI Headquarters on Friday,september 5,2025.
According to Brigadier General Ardianzah, the encounter began when a senior Brimob officer confronted Major SS, questioning his involvement in the demonstration in a raised voice. “The conversation started with Brimob colleagues and Major SS. The senior brimob officer asked, ‘You joined the demonstration!'” Ardianzah recounted.
Major SS responded by explaining he was performing his duties, stating, “Then sorry, sir, I am carrying out my duties,” as relayed by Major SS. Brimob officers then inquired about his assignment and affiliation.”What task are you on? Where are you from?” thay asked, to which Major SS replied, “I am from Bais.”
To verify his claim, Major SS presented his identification card. brimob personnel later photographed him,images of which later circulated on social media. A senior Brimob officer then requested to see Major SS’s assignment letter,ordering it be photographed alongside himself and other Brimob members. “Then from Brimob said, who was the oldest in your group? Major SS answered the oldest in the group, I sir,” Ardianzah stated.
Bais is the Indonesian military’s strategic intelligence agency. The TNI has clarified that Major SS was conducting legitimate intelligence gathering activities at the time of the incident.
