Jakarta,Indonesia – August 11,2025 – President Prabowo Subianto has officially inaugurated six new Military Regional Commands (Kodam) as part of a significant expansion of Indonesia’s military infrastructure. The move, announced during a ceremony at the Suparlan Field of the Batujajar Pusdiklatpassus in Bandung, West Java, aims to bolster national defense and territorial security.
The six newly established Kodam are strategically located to enhance the Indonesian Army‘s operational reach. While specific locations weren’t detailed in the initial announcement, brigadier General wahyu Yudhayana, Head of the Army Details Office (Kadispenad), confirmed that construction of the Kodam headquarters is nearing completion. The Army anticipates physical completion of all six headquarters by the end of 2025, with ongoing work focused on final improvements and supporting facilities.
“Examples of the Kodam in Central Kalimantan,have become their makodam. What is now the process of building buildings or supporting offices. Then the Kodam in other regions, the construction process has begun,” stated Brigadier General Yudhayana. He further assured that all six Kodam are already operational,with organizational and administrative arrangements underway.
This expansion isn’t limited to Army commands. president Prabowo also inaugurated 14 Naval Commands (Kodaeral), 3 Air Force Commands, 1 Air Operation Command, 6 Special Forces command Groups, 20 Territorial Development brigades, 1 Marine Infantry Brigade, 1 Corps of Fast Motion Forces Corps, 100 Territorial Development Battalions, and 5 Marine Infantry battalions during the same ceremony. The inauguration of the 5 Battalions of the Troops Command Moves Fast is a key component of this broader modernization effort.

Indonesia has been undertaking a ample military modernization program in recent years, driven by a need to secure its vast archipelago and address evolving security challenges. the establishment of these new Kodam reflects a strategic shift towards strengthening territorial control and rapid response capabilities. Indonesia’s extensive coastline and numerous islands necessitate a robust and geographically distributed military presence.
The creation of these commands is expected to improve coordination between the military and local authorities, enhance disaster response capabilities, and facilitate socio-economic development in remote regions. the Territorial Development Brigades and Battalions, in particular, are designed to support infrastructure projects and community engagement initiatives.
The Pusdiklatpassus (Special Forces Training and Education Center) in Batujajar, where the inauguration took place, is a key training facility for Indonesia’s elite military units. Its selection as the venue underscores the importance of special operations forces in the country’s defense strategy.
