francis Ford Coppola โisโ selling aโค one-of-a-kind F.P. journe watch he co-designed, estimated to fetch between $500,000 adn โ$1 million, to address outstanding debts, auction house Phillips confirmedโ Thursday. The watch, known as theโ FFC Prototype, is a collaboration between the legendary filmmakerโค and self-reliant watchmaker Franรงois-Paul โJourne, and represents a rare intersection of cinematicโ andโข horological artistry.
The auction, part of Phillips’ Geneva Watchโข Auction โXIVโข on November 12 and 13, comes as Coppola navigates financial pressures related to hisโข independent โfilmmaking endeavors.โ While the sale reflects the pragmatic โคrealities of funding artistic projects,โ itโ also offers collectors a uniqueโ possibility to acquire aโข piece of both film and watchmaking โhistory. According to sources, Coppola, much like his characters, is willing to “go all in” and โrisk โpersonal assetsโฃ to โrealize his creative vision.
The FFC Prototypeโ was conceived โduring the production of Coppola’s 1992 film Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Coppola,โข fascinated by past timekeeping, approached Journe with the ideaโ of creating a watch that reflected the aesthetic of the era. โขthe resulting timepiece features a โblack-treated titanium case and a distinctive, hand-crafted movement.
“he is trying to raise funds to offset someโค debt,”โ said Thomas Boutros of Phillips, speaking to The Hollywood Reporter. “That’s the reality of โคlife, andโค he’s someone who goes all โin and puts โฃeverything on the line. You have to respect that.”
alongside the FFCโข Prototype,Coppola is also selling his IWC Portugieser Chronograph,a watch gifted to him by a โฃfriend, with an estimatedโฃ value โฃbetweenโฃ $25,000 and $50,000. Both โtimepieces will be offered as part of the Geneva auction, providing a โglimpse into the personalโฃ collection of one ofโข cinema’s most influentialโข figures.
