Native Korean Vine Shows โคPromise in Hair Loss Prevention
SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA – A common coastal plant native to Korea โmay offer a โnatural solution for those โคstruggling with hair loss, according โคto newly โขreleased research from the National Forest Research Institute. โฃThe findings, the result of three years ofโฃ study, โฃsuggest the evergreen vine known asโ the barley rice โtree (Clematis armandii) substantially boosts the activityโฃ of dermal โฃpapilla โขcells -โ crucial for hairโ growth – โand could lead to commercially available products โคwithin the year.
Millions grapple โคwith hair loss, a condition impacting self-esteem โand quality of โlife. Current treatments range from โคtopical โsolutions and medications to โฃsurgical procedures, often with varyingโ degrees of effectiveness and potential side effects. This discovery offersโค the potential for a safe, โขeffective, andโข locally sourcedโข alternative, tapping into the growing demand for natural remedies. The Institute has alreadyโฃ securedโ a patent for the barley rice tree’s hair loss prevention โฃproperties and isโ currently โconducting โฃclinical trials.
Researchers at the Institute of Forest Bio discovered that extracts from the barley rice tree โdemonstrably strengthen dermal papilla โฃcells. โInโฃ laboratory tests, a concentration of 10 ฮผg/mL ofโ barley rice extract increased cell โฃactivity by 150%, withโ a further increase observed at โ30ฮผg/mL. This โฃactivationโข is expected to fortifyโ hair โfollicles and prevent hair loss.
“We have developedโ dermal papilla activators, so this will be beneficial forโ anyone concerned about hair loss, and even more so for โthose already experiencing it,” explained Dr. Choi Sik-won of the โฃNational โForest Research Institute’sโ forest Bio-Material Research Division. The potential for industrial application is significant,as โit utilizes a readily available, naturalโ Korean resource. Dr. โChoi added, “Some ingredients extracted โfrom โคnatural resources are โveryโ safe and have been used for a long time, so they โcan prevent hair loss safely and effectively.”
Four domestic bio companies are currently preparing to license the technology from the National Forest Research Institute, with plans toโ launch related products before the end โฃof the โฃyear.
