The iconic medical comedy “Scrubs” returned to television Wednesday night with a premiere on ABC, marking the show’s tenth season and a revival more than 15 years after its original run concluded. The reboot, which began airing at 8 p.m. ET, brings back original stars Zach Braff as John “J.D.” Dorian, Donald Faison as Christopher Turk, Sarah Chalke as Elliot Reid, John C. McGinley as Dr. Perry Cox, and Judy Reyes as Carla Espinosa, alongside recurring cast member Neil Flynn as the Janitor.
The latest season likewise introduces a fresh group of medical interns at Sacred Heart Hospital, and features Vanessa Bayer (“Saturday Night Live”) as Sibby, the hospital’s new wellness director and human resources manager. The premiere aired on ABC and is available to stream on Hulu as of Thursday, February 26, according to network announcements.
The revival was officially ordered in July 2025, according to reports, and aims to recapture the spirit of the original series while introducing a new generation of characters. A review in The Hollywood Reporter noted the reboot delivers what fans of the original series crave, acknowledging the passage of time without significant maturation of the core characters.
A key moment for fans in the premiere was the return of the show’s signature gag, the “Eagle,” a recurring bit where J.D. And Turk strike a pose and shout “Eagle!” Braff and Faison recently shared that the stunt, while beloved, wasn’t without its mishaps during filming.
The series, created by Bill Lawrence, originally ran for nine seasons, first on NBC from 2001 to 2008, and then on ABC from 2009 to 2010. The tenth season consists of nine episodes. The show is set at the fictional Sacred Heart Hospital in the equally fictional city of San DiFrangeles, California.
Showrunner Aseem Batra confirmed in an interview with TVLine that Neil Flynn will appear as a guest star in an episode of the tenth season, bringing back the enigmatic Janitor who often broke the fourth wall with his sardonic observations.
