Former โSt.John’s Star Luis Ortiz Waived by Maine Celtics, to Undergo โSurgery
The Maineโ Celtics have waived former St. John’s University standout Luis Ortiz, the team announced Thursday, and Ortiz will โundergo surgery for an undisclosed injury. The move comes after Ortiz was waived by the Bostonโ celtics at the end of โฃpreseason.
Ortiz signed a two-way contract with the Utah Jazz in June after going undrafted, and was afterward tradedโ to Boston in August as partโ of a deal โฃthat sent Georges Niang and two second-round draft picks to the Jazz. Heโฃ filled oneโ of the Celtics’ three two-way slots.
Though sidelined by a โknee injury, Ortiz participated in โthe Celtics’ training camp and appeared in three preseason games, scoring 6 points in 8 minutes of action. The Celtics later signed Ron Harper Jr.to their final two-way contract, alongside rookiesโ Max Shulga and Amari โฃWilliams.
Ortiz previouslyโข missed time due to a groin injury during his senior season at st. John’s and sat โฃout Summer Leagueโข action with โขthe Jazz due to a โคknee injury.
The Maine Celtics’ roster now consists of 13 players, including Aaron Scott, Hayden โฃGray, Kendall Brown, Jalen Bridges, Kameron Warrens, Hason Ward,โค Ron Harper Jr., Max Shulga,โฃ and Amari Williams. Omar El-Sheikh, vance โคJackson, and Nicolas Timberlake were also waived by the team. The Maine celtics begin their season Friday โagainst the Greensboro โขSwarm.
