Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Weigl Linked with Al-Shabab Transfer

by Alex Carter - Sports Editor August 26, 2025
written by Alex Carter - Sports Editor

Breaking: Borussia ⁤Mönchengladbach midfielder Florian Weigl is set ‌to join saudi Pro League club Al-Shabab, ⁢with the german ⁤side granting ⁣the Saudi club a purchase option. The move comes after Weigl‌ was left ‍out of the squad for SundayS 0-0⁤ draw against Hamburger SV.

Weigl arrived ⁢at⁢ Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2023⁢ from Benfica SL‍ following a one-year loan, completing a permanent transfer for a fee of ⁤€7.2 million. During his time with the “Foals,” he has featured ⁢in 94 matches, contributing ⁣to nine⁣ goals.‍ He frequently captained ⁤the team last season, taking over the armband from Philipp Sander, whose contract expired this summer.

At Al-Shabab, Weigl would ‍become one of the club’s most valuable players, with a reported market value of €6 million, alongside‍ Yannick Carrasco and perhaps⁤ Habib Diallo, who is reportedly nearing a move⁣ to Ligue 1. Al-shabab finished sixth in the Saudi Pro League‍ last season and ⁣recently ⁤appointed Imanol Alguacil as their ⁣new head coach. ⁤Alguacil ⁢previously managed Real Sociedad ⁢from December 2018 until June 2025.

Should the ⁢transfer be completed, ‌Weigl will be the seventh German player to compete in‌ the Saudi Pro League. Currently, Gökhan Gül and Koray Günter are under contract with Al-Okhdood Club. Previously, marko Marin (Al-Ahli,Al-RAED),Robert Bauer (Al-Tai⁤ FC),Amin Younes, and Heiner Backhaus (both Al-Ettifaq) have also played⁣ professionally in Saudi Arabia.

weigl initially joined Borussia⁤ Mönchengladbach under coach Gerardo Seoane, but his role appeared to diminish ‌towards the end of the season. ‌His departure could create a void in midfield for the Bundesliga⁤ club, as he⁣ established himself as a key player during his tenure.

SC Verl: Regional league striker scores twice – big defeat against Bundesliga club

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com October 11, 2024
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

SC Verl met a challenging opponent for a test on Thursday. Ultimately, Borussia Mönchengladbach was a few sizes too big.

That’s how it turned out SC Verl His test match against Bundesliga club Borussia Mönchengladbach was certainly not presented. The third division club suffered a bitter 0:5 (0:3) defeat against the foals.

Borussia had a few players from the front row on the pitch, some of whom were supposed to make an appearance. However, Shio Fukuda, who is normally used in the Foals’ regional league team, made the start. With an assist from Robin Hack, the offensive man took the early Foal lead.

It was also Hack who assisted Alassane Plea in the 34th minute. Plea is from the mentioned first guard and took off from the rotation. Philipp Schulze in the SC Verl goal couldn’t get to it – 0:2.

Before the break, Florian Neuhaus – this time on an assist from Plea – made it 3-0 for the guests (40th). After the break, things continued bitterly for Verl – Fukuda followed up. At first he failed, then he pushed the ball over the line while sitting (52′). Three minutes later, Noah Pesch made it 5-0. After being presented by Neuhaus, he flicked the ball into the left corner (55′).

The Gladbachers gained a little self-confidence after a weak start to the season and the recent 1:2 in the league at FC Augsburg. Verl, on the other hand, was able to recently win again after four games.

Berkan Taz and Eduard Probst hit the net and ensured a 2-0 win for the Verler against the Unterhaching game association, which has been waiting for a three-pointer for five matches.

“I’m really happy for the boys. Similar to the last few weeks, we played well and created chances to score. A bit of déjà vu at the beginning, which then goes out from the inside post, just wide of the goal. And then you struggle again “It was very, very important that we kept the zero,” said a relieved Alexander Ende, coach of SC Verl, in an interview with “Magenta Sport”.

This victory was probably much more important to him than the defeat against Borussia Mönchengladbach.

This is how the teams played:

SC Verl P. Schulze – Scholze, Gruber, F. Otto, Kijewski – Stark, Gayret, Baack, Taz – Kyeremateng, Onuoha

Living. Monchengladbach

Sippel – Lainer, Friedrich, Weigl, Atty – Sander, Neuhaus, Herrmann, Plea, Hack – Fukuda

LAST-MINUTE-LEVERKUSEN!

As so often in the last championship season, Bayer decides a game in the last second.

For a long time it looked like a confident opening victory.

First of all, coach Xabi Alonso can rely on two of his top stars! Granit Xhaka and Wirtz opened the season with two great goals!

12th minute: Xhaka shoots from around 23 meters, hammering the ball in at 129 km/h.

A shot like a line to make it 1-0 – a fantastic start for the champions!

Xhaka-hammer!Is THAT already the goal of the season?

Gladbach, on the other hand, was caught off guard. Borussia actually held up well and created top chances for themselves.

But: Leverkusen will be celebrating again next!

38th minute: Wirtz gets the ball from a rebound, shoots and hits the near corner. That’s 2-0!

Bitter for Gladbach: Shortly after Leverkusen’s second goal, Tim Kleindienst scores what appears to be the 2-1 equaliser (43′).

According to the VAR images, referee Robert Schröder disallowed the goal due to a foul. But: Gladbach has tasted blood – and actually manages a comeback!

First, central defender Nico Elvedi (27) brings the team of coach Gerardo Seoane (45) back into the game.

58th minute: The Swiss player’s header from a free kick is initially blocked by keeper Hradecky, but he scores with a follow-up shot to make it 2-1.

Five minutes before the end of regular time, Borussia finally equalizes!

85th minute: Kleindienst is served in the penalty area and leaves Hradecky no chance as he falls. That’s 2:2!

The final point? NO! Because Leverkusen once again struck masterfully at the end…

Mönchengladbach – Leverkusen 2:3, Leverkusen remembered last season, the victory was decided in the setup – Sport.cz

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com August 23, 2024
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Leverkusen is already leading by two goals in the 38th minute. Former Mönchengladbach captain Granit Xhaka scored the opening goal of the new season in the 12th minute beautifully from distance, and German representative Wirtz extended the champions’ lead after the break.

However, Borussia got back into the game after less than an hour of play thanks to Nic Elvedi’s save and in the 85th minute Tim Kleindienst equalized in the fall, his goal disallowed -allowed by VAR at the end of the first half due to one attacking foul. The Czech striker Tomáš Čvančara was already on the field in the home jersey, replacing him in the 71st minute.

The decision in the long settlement was brought about by another review of the video, which revealed foul play by the home team in the penalty area. Wirtz contested the penalty, and his shot was blocked by goalkeeper Jonas Omlin, but the German midfielder made no mistake from the stoppage. Leverkusen won for the sixth time in a row in Mönchengladbach, extending their Bundesliga unbeaten run to 35 games.

Striker Patrik Schick did not get on the field in a Bayer jersey, as he played as a substitute on Saturday and took part with a goal and penalty conversion in the German Super Cup shootout win against Stuttgart . Goalkeeper Matěj Kovář also remained on the bench.
