Borussia Dortmund will have Mats Hummels and potentially Emre Can available for their Bundesliga match against Augsburg this Saturday, offering a boost to the team’s defensive options despite an injury to Nico Schlotterbeck.
Schlotterbeck sustained an ankle injury during Dortmund’s recent Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain, initially raising concerns about his availability. However, coach Edin Terzić confirmed that the injury isn’t as severe as first feared, though Schlotterbeck will still miss the Augsburg game. Can, recovering from a thigh injury, is being carefully reintegrated into training and is now a candidate for a spot on the bench as a defensive option. Terzić intends to gradually increase Can’s playing time in the coming weeks.
Terzić downplayed the significance of facing his coaching counterpart, Sandro Wagner, stating, “I don’t overrate the situation. It’s a Bundesliga team with immense quality. We need to be 100 percent focused. We onyl look at ourselves, want to implement our game, and win.” He emphasized the team’s determination to secure a victory even in Schlotterbeck’s absence.
