“What is the Significance of Rest for the Health and Learning of Children?”

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com March 16, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Among the benefits associated with good sleep for children, we can mention a better mood, increased attention and concentration, as well as children’s ability to manage stress.

“During sleep, the brain processes and stores the information acquired during the day. Children who get enough sleep have a better ability to retain and remember information, which improves their academic performance,” explained the doctor in psychology from the University of York.

On the contrary, lack of sleep can have a very negative impact on the health of minors, affecting their academic performance and their ability to learn.

For his part, the director of the Millennium Nucleus for Health Sciences (MiNSoL) and tenured professor at the Faculty of Educational Sciences of the Catholic University of Maule (UCM) of Chile, Roberto Ferreira, argued that the lack of rest “It can affect children’s ability to do well in school and in physical activities. On the other hand, children who do not get enough sleep are more likely to develop obesity, diabetes and heart disease.

According to the expert, there is evidence that suggests that “many students in various countries do not get enough sleep because they have to get up very early to go to school.”

Ferreira added that “the circadian rhythms of children and young people differ from that of adults, since they change with development, that is, as children grow and mature. Adolescents, in particular, have a biological clock that leads them to have more energy at night, stay up later, and sleep more in the morning.”
