Cuban border Patrol Intercepts Boat โfrom Mexico,Detains Two citizens
Cuban border guard โขforces, working with local โขpolice, recently interceptedโฃ a boat originating from Mexico near cape San Antonio โin the Pinar del Rรญo province.Theโข operation,โ reported byโข the Ministry of the Interior (MININT) affiliated Facebook pageโ De Pinarโฃ Soy, resulted in the detention of two Cubanโข citizens.
Authorities stated the individuals, both residing in Mexico, had returned to Cuba with the intention of facilitating an unauthorized maritime โขdeparture. โThey are currently โขin custodyโค and will face legal charges under Cuban law,โ whichโค carries penalties for illegal departures from the country.
Thisโข interception is โขpart of โa broader effort by Cuban authorities to curb illegalโข migration. In recentโค months, several boatsโ suspected of being used for illicit outward travel โขhave been confiscated across the country, including vessels found in โthe Matanzas province and other coastal areas. The MININT previously reported discovering abandoned boats,โ frequently enough left after unsuccessful attempts at human trafficking.
While acknowledging migration is not inherently โcriminal when conducted legally, authorities โemphasized the difficulties faced by Cubans โseeking to emigrate are compounded by restrictions imposed by the United States. The operation took place in a tough-to-access coastal region, according to witnesses cited by โ De Pinar โSoy.
