Teenager Continues Recovery After Lake Nottely Boatโ Explosion
ATLANTA (WANF/Gray News) – A 17-year-old boy has been released from the hospital after suffering severe burns in a boat explosion on โฃLake Nottely in July.โ Isaac โMillerโค sustained third-degreeโค burns over 82% of his body and is now continuing his recovery at an in-patient physical therapy center.
The explosion occurred after the familyS boat wasโค refueled while picking up โtrashโฃ from โthe water,according to Isaac’s father,Matthew Miller. Matthewโฃ Miller, a โboater with 25 years ofโค experience, stated theyโ followed โsafety procedures, โฃidling the engine, shutting it off, and activating the blowerโ fans before refueling. โHe also noted the boat was well-maintained and relatively โขnew.
“He has 82% โthird degree burns. Second degree on his face and otherโข areas. Very dire needs right now,” Matthewโข Miller said of his โson’s initial condition. “Theyโค just got done with surgery they were able to do 62% of getting the โขburn stuff off. They didโฃ as much as his body would allow them to do. he has been medically in a coma since theโ fourth.”
Isaac underwentโ extensive treatment, including skin graftsโข utilizing lab-grown skin developed from his own cells. While released from the hospital, his recovery journey continues as he focuses on physicalโฃ therapy.
All seven family members on board โขat the time of the explosion sustained burns. Authorities are continuing to investigate โthe cause of the incident.
