Activision โฃAddresses Campaign Pause Issue in ‘Black Ops 7’
The single-playerโค campaign of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 has drawn criticism, with one reviewer calling it “the worst Call of duty campaign ever made.” While the game introduced innovative features likeโ fullโฃ four-player online co-op and cross-progression-allowing โคplayers to โlevel up guns, unlock camos,โฃ and increase rank applicable to bothโ campaign and end-game content-theseโฃ additions contributed to important functionalityโข issues.
A โkey complaint centers โaround the inability to pause the campaign. Unlike previous call of Duty titles, Blackโข Ops 7 lacks a pause function, mirroringโฃ theโข experience in multiplayer modes. Furthermore, โthe โgame doesโค not save progress uponโ quitting or experiencing a crash, forcing โขplayers to restart missions. Players can also be kicked for inactivity, even whileโฃ playing solo.
Activision โฃreleased a statement explaining theโ design choices: “The Black Ops 7 Co-Opโค Campaign missions andโฃ gameplay are hostedโ on dedicated servers online with other players to facilitate global progression and โคXP โearning, along with saves acrossโ multiple devices. this means pausing isn’t possible for the same reason โit isn’t in Multiplayer, though there are โmission checkpoints if you fail while playing.”
While mission checkpoints exist upon failure, they do not activate if aโค player quits or is โdisconnected. The reviewer notedโข that other onlineโค games, such asโ Dark Souls, allow players โฃto resume fromโค theirโข last โlocation upon quitting. They also suggested alternative solutions toโข address player inactivity, like a voting kick system โor differentiated functionality for solo players, including the ability to save โprogress uponโ exiting a mission.
Despite potential fixes to these โฃtechnical issues, the reviewer maintains that the โcampaignโ suffers from a disjointed and illogical storyline. While acknowledging “someโข fun missions” and “very creative boss fights,” โthey expressed disappointment with theโ overall narrative.
A โfull review of Black Ops 7’s multiplayer modesโค is forthcoming on the blog.
