Gary Stead Returns to New Zealand Cricket in High Performance role
WELLINGTON, Newโฃ Zealand – Gary Stead has re-joined New Zealand Cricket โฃ(NZC) as a high performance coach, โthe association announced today. Theโ move comes after Stead stepped down as head coach of the Black Caps in june following an eight-year tenure.
Stead’s newโ position โฃwill focus on supporting the progressโข of both players and coaches, and also contributing โขto NZC’s high โperformance programs. This appointment secures Stead’s extensive expertise within the New Zealand cricket system, ensuring continued growth for the nationalโข teams and the wider domestic game.
“Gary’s โknowledge and experience in cricket are considerable and the โคfact he’s still passionate and motivated to give back to the game in this country speaks volumes about his โคcharacter,” said Daryl Gibson, NZC’s chief high performance officer.
The โคrole will see Stead โฃworking approximately three days a week with players โคand coaches, while โขalso allowing himโข to pursue external coaching opportunities. He recently assisted Andhra in their four-day domestic โขcompetition in India and has also provided interim support to Otagoโ Cricket and participated in a New Zealand Cricket under-19 camp.
“I’m still passionate โabout coaching and trying โto help people learn and improve,” Stead stated. “If I canโ pass on โsome of my skills and experiences to the wider cricket network and in turn help the Black Caps and White Fernsโ win on โthe world stageโ – than that would be really satisfying.”
