Bitdefender Announces Project Reprioritization, โLeading to Layoffs in Romania and Globally
bitdefender has notified employees across several departments, includingโฃ a meaningful number โคwithin โคits Businessโ Solutions Groupโฃ (BSG) in Romania, of impending layoffs. The company confirmed the restructuring is due to a reprioritization of projects aimed atโฃ ensuring “long-term sustainable growth.” While the layoffs are occurring globally, less โthan 7% of the company’s total workforce is affected.
Based on estimates of 1,600 to 2,400 Bitdefender employees worldwide in 2025, thisโข translates toโข approximately 112โค to 168 positions beingโข eliminated. Company representatives emphasized the decision is not based on individual performance, but โขrather on streamlining project structures and โeliminating redundancies.
The affected employees wereโ informed โคof the decision on Novemberโ 12th and 13th, 2025, with contract terminations occurring “by mutualโค consent of theโ parties.” โBitdefender is offering compensation packages, transition assistance, and opportunities to explore internal roles.
Despite the โขrestructuring, Bitdefender maintains that โคRomania remains a crucialโ location for its operations. The company stated, “Romaniaโ remains โa central pillar of the company’s global R&D operations, where hundreds of the company’s most talented engineers work.” Bitdefender will continue to invest inโ innovation and engineering within the country, and all five of โฃits Romanian research and growth centers – located in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Iaศi, Timiศoara, and โฃTรขrgu mureศ – will remain โoperational. โขTheโ company insists โthat local technical departments willโ not be dissolved and projects will continue in Romania following an internal โreallocation of resources.
Bitdefender also clarified that the layoffs are not related to the adoption of Artificialโค intelligence (AI). The company stated that AIโค “facilitates growth and innovation, but โฃit is not aโ substitute for humans,” and has been integrated into its security solutions since 2008. โฃโ Bitdefender views โคAI as aโข tool to accelerate โขresearch, improve detection capabilities, and โenhance scalability, aiming for a โbalanced integration of human โฃexpertise and artificial intelligence.
Theโข Business Solutionsโ group, theโ division most impacted by the layoffs, โprovides threat prevention, detection, and response solutionsโค to over 40,000 organizations globally, including businesses, government entities, and non-profits.
