Qatar to Continue Mediation Despite Israeli Strike โin Doha
Despiteโฃ a recent Israeli airstrike in Doha targeting Hamas leaders, Qatar will continue its mediation efforts to secure โขa ceasefire in Gaza, according to reports.Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahuโ stated โคthe “surgical, precision” strikeโ could pave the way for theโ “immediate” end of the war, adding that Israel has accepted a proposal put forwardโข by Presidentโ Trump โtoโฃ end the conflict, contingentโฃ on the immediate โคrelease of all hostages.
The strike occurred while Hamas leaders were gathered โin doha โคdiscussing a response to the โlatest US principles aimed โat ending the 23-month โGaza war. mr. Netanyahu โwas informed of a “uniqueโค window of chance” to targetโข the leaders while attending a session in his corruption trial at the Tel Aviv district court, promptingโ him to instantly travel to Shinโ Bet โheadquarters. The operation involved ten โขIsraeli aircraft – fighterโค jets, refuelling aircraft, intelligence-gathering planes, and drones – travelling โฃapproximately 1,800km to Doha. However, Israeli officials โmaintain a ceasefire is notโข imminent and claim Hamas has no intention of releasing โthe 48 hostages, 20โ of whom are believed to โstill be โalive.
The strike โขhas sparked concernโข among families of the hostages. โEinav Zangauker, whose son Matan โis โheld by Hamas, expressed fearโ thatโ the action may have jeopardized โher son’s life, stating, “I โคam trembling with fearโฆ It could be that atโฃ this vreyโฃ moment the prime minister has actually assassinated my Matan, sealed hisโ fate. Why doesโ he insistโฃ on blowing every chance at a deal?โ This isโ my child’s life!”
Opposition leader Yairโ Lapid has called on the governmentโข to clarify whether theโค Doha strike endangered the hostages andโ whether theโข risk toโข theirโข lives was considered before authorizing the โoperation. Heโ acknowledged Hamas members were likely to die but stressed โคthe need โขfor clarity regarding the hostages’ safety.
Israeli attacks on Gaza City continued following the strike.
