Scream 7 Box Office: $97.2M Global Debut Beats Expectations

by Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor March 2, 2026
written by Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor

“Scream 7” exceeded box office expectations this weekend, grossing $64.1 million domestically and $97.2 million globally, despite receiving largely negative reviews. The film, starring Neve Campbell, marks the best horror opening ever for Paramount Pictures and the highest February debut for a horror film, according to Paramount and Spyglass.

The opening weekend performance significantly surpassed initial projections of $44 million domestically and $60 million worldwide. Approximately $7.1 million of the global total came from IMAX screenings alone. The film’s production budget was $45 million, meaning it has already more than doubled its investment.

Neve Campbell returns as Sidney Prescott in the seventh installment of the franchise, having sat out the sixth film. The film’s release follows a period of behind-the-scenes turmoil, including the departure of Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega, and negotiations to bring Campbell back to the series, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. Kevin Williamson, the creator of the series, also directed “Scream 7,” marking his directorial debut within the franchise.

The AP News review described the film as “an uninspired bore,” while The Hollywood Reporter noted the film had “plenty of suspense” but questioned the focus on “backstory and corporate intrigue.”

Other films in the top five domestically included “Goat” ($12 million), “Wuthering Heights” ($7 million), “Twenty One Pilots: More Than We Ever Imagined – Live in Mexico City” ($3.7 million), and “EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert” ($3.5 million). “EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert” saw a 9% increase in its second weekend.

Internationally, the Chinese racing film “Pegasus 3” performed strongly, earning $50.3 million this weekend and bringing its global total to $554.2 million. “Wuthering Heights” has now grossed $192 million worldwide, while “Goat” has earned $130.5 million globally.

Mortal Kombat 3 Script Teased: Sequel Already in Development?

by Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor March 1, 2026
written by Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor

A partial script for “Mortal Kombat 3” was revealed today by franchise producer Todd Garner, signaling rapid development of the next installment in the Warner Bros. Pictures film series.

The image, posted on X, shows the script’s cover with Jeremy Slater’s name as writer, a credit stating the film is “Based on the games from NetherRealm Studios,” and a “Draft 1.1” date of Friday, February 28, 2026. The visible portion of the logo matches that of the original “Mortal Kombat 3” game, released in 1995.

Slater penned the script for the upcoming “Mortal Kombat II,” currently slated for release on May 15, 2026, after its release date was shifted from October 24, 2025. He first announced the development of a third film at New York Comic Con last October, stating that New Line and Warner Bros. Were “so convinced that there is a giant fanbase waiting for it that they already hired me to start writing the next instalment of ‘Mortal Kombat’”.

The speed of development follows a strong initial response to marketing materials for “Mortal Kombat II.” The film’s red-band trailer garnered 107 million global views within 24 hours of its release in July 2025, setting a record for a red-band trailer, according to Warner Bros. Sources. As of this week, the full trailer on YouTube has reached 17 million views in a few days, exceeding the 12 million views the teaser trailer accumulated over seven months.

“Mortal Kombat II” stars Karl Urban, Adeline Rudolph, Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Ludi Lin, Mehcad Brooks, Tati Gabrielle, Lewis Tan, Damon Herriman, Chin Han, Tadanobu Asano, Joe Taslim, and Hiroyuki Sanada. Simon McQuoid directed both “Mortal Kombat” (2021) and “Mortal Kombat II,” and will return for the third installment. Todd Garner will produce, alongside James Wan, Toby Emmerich, E. Bennett Walsh, and Simon McQuoid.

The “Mortal Kombat” franchise originated as a 1992 arcade game by Midway Games, created by Ed Boon and John Tobias.

Jason Bourne: Recasting Rumors Heat Up for Next Film

by Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor March 1, 2026
written by Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor

Talk surrounding a potential modern installment in the Jason Bourne franchise is intensifying, with indications a significant casting announcement could be forthcoming, according to a report on Jeff Sneider’s The Hot Mic podcast. While details remain scarce, the discussion suggests Universal Pictures is considering recasting the role of Jason Bourne, currently associated with Matt Damon.

The possibility of a recasting comes after a period of uncertainty for the franchise. Universal reacquired the rights to the Robert Ludlum-created character last year, following a brief period where they were being shopped to other studios including Skydance, Apple, and Netflix, as reported in August 2025 by World of Reel. Edward Berger, the director of critically acclaimed films like “Conclave” and “All Quiet on the Western Front,” remains attached to the project, but his involvement is contingent on Damon’s participation. “I will do it if Matt wants to do it,” Berger told The Hollywood Reporter in September.

Joe Barton, the showrunner of “Black Doves,” has reportedly penned the latest draft of the script. The last film in the series, 2016’s “Jason Bourne,” directed by Paul Greengrass, failed to recapture the success of the earlier Damon-led films. The original trilogy – “The Bourne Identity,” “The Bourne Supremacy,” and “The Bourne Ultimatum” – were particularly well-received.

The franchise, which has generated $1.64 billion globally, is considered the most commercially successful spy film series after James Bond. Berger acknowledged the pressure of living up to that legacy, stating to Empire magazine that he doesn’t desire to create a film that is considered inferior to previous installments. He emphasized the need to bring something “completely fresh” to the franchise, something that hasn’t been explored by previous directors.

Damon himself has indicated a willingness to return for “one more” film, but his participation appears to be a key factor in moving forward. A previous production listing even suggested a working title for the next installment, “The Bourne Dilemma,” with Berger as director. However, Damon’s age – 54 as of March 1, 2026 – is reportedly a consideration, according to reports from Collider.

As of now, Universal Pictures has not commented on the potential recasting or the timeline for a formal announcement.

Resident Evil Requiem: Rave Reviews & PS5 Pro Performance

by Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor February 27, 2026
written by Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor

Capcom’s “Resident Evil Requiem” launched today, February 27th, to widespread critical acclaim, positioning itself as a potential frontrunner for game of the year awards. The ninth mainline installment in the long-running survival horror franchise has garnered praise for its optimization, compelling narrative, and successful blend of action and horror elements.

The game currently holds an 88/100 score on Metacritic, exceeding the scores of “Resident Evil 7” (86) and “Resident Evil: Village” (84), though falling slightly short of the remakes of “Resident Evil 2” (91) and “Resident Evil 4” (93). Reviewers have consistently highlighted the game’s technical performance, noting its ability to run smoothly across a range of hardware, including the newly released Nintendo Switch 2.

“Resident Evil Requiem is an exceptionally well-made nostalgia romp that elevates everything special about the series, showcasing the pinnacle of both survival horror and action horror in a package that has a little bit of everything but executes it all well,” wrote Destructoid in their review. Radio Times echoed this sentiment, stating that the game features “Leon’s back with as many fresh one-liners as the team could fit into the game. Throw in some of the most tense and creepy exploration we’ve had to handle so far, and Resident Evil Requiem really is Capcom firing on all cylinders to deliver their best survival horror to date.”

The game is also receiving attention for its performance on the PlayStation 5 Pro. Early reports indicate that “Resident Evil Requiem” is among the first third-party titles to demonstrate significant graphical improvements on the upgraded console. The PS5 Pro offers two distinct visual modes: a 60 frames-per-second mode with ray tracing, considered by many to be the optimal experience, and a 120Hz performance mode that disables ray tracing for a smoother framerate, albeit with reduced visual fidelity.

DualShockers praised the game’s balance of horror and action, stating, “Resident Evil Requiem is everything that RE fans could want out of the next entry in the series and more. It walks a tightrope of horror and action, but has perfected this balance in a way that delivers a heart-stopping, adrenaline-pumping good time, regardless of what kind of RE fan you are.” Atomix described the title as “A spectacular story that reconnects with the origins of the entire saga, an innovative yet classic gameplay system that perfectly modulates its pace, and a truly next-generation audiovisual presentation are just some of the elements that build Resident Evil Requiem a very serious contender for Game of the Year 2026.”

GameReactor UK added, “Resident Evil Requiem is a fantastic example of why this series continues to thrive, it’s a truly great experience that will have you smiling with glee, quivering with fear, and pumping a fist in the air out of thrill.”

Capcom has not yet announced any plans for post-launch downloadable content, though discussion surrounding potential DLC is already building online, with some fans expressing strong interest in further expanding the game’s narrative.

Lily Collins to Play Audrey Hepburn in ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’ Film

by Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor February 24, 2026
written by Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor

Lily Collins has been cast to portray Audrey Hepburn in an upcoming film focusing on the making of the 1961 classic, “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” according to an announcement from Case Study Films and Imagine Entertainment.

The project will be based on Sam Wasson’s 2017 book, “Fifth Avenue, 5 A.M.: Audrey Hepburn, Breakfast at Tiffany’s and the Dawn of the Modern Woman,” which offers a detailed account of the film’s production. The film promises to explore the complex dynamics surrounding the iconic movie, featuring key figures such as Hepburn, author Truman Capote (whose novella the film is based on), costume designer Edith Head, and director Blake Edwards.

“Breakfast at Tiffany’s” starred Hepburn as Holly Golightly, a New York socialite navigating love and life in a rapidly changing era. The film garnered five Academy Award nominations and remains a significant cultural and fashion landmark, earning a place in the U.S. National Film Registry in 2012.

Alena Smith, known for her work as the creator of the series “Dickinson,” is adapting Wasson’s book for the screen. Collins will also serve as a producer alongside Charlie McDowell, Alex Orlovsky, Brian Grazer, Jeb Brody, Justin Wilkes, and Scott LaStaiti.

The casting of Collins has sparked a reaction online, with some fans expressing disappointment and suggesting that Ariana Grande would have been a more fitting choice for the role, according to reports from the Daily Mail.

Collins herself expressed her enthusiasm for the role, stating she is “honored and ecstatic” to portray Hepburn, as reported by TODAY.com. She acknowledged the comparisons she has faced to Hepburn throughout her career.

Jurassic World: Liberation – Possible Title for Sequel Revealed

by Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor February 23, 2026
written by Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor

Domain name registrations potentially linked to a sequel to Universal Pictures’ “Jurassic World Rebirth” have surfaced, suggesting the working title “Jurassic World: Liberation.” The registrations, including jurassicworldliberation.movie and jurassicworldliberation.com, redirect to the franchise’s official website, jurassicworld.com.

“Jurassic World Rebirth,” directed by Gareth Edwards, was released last year and grossed over $869 million worldwide, becoming the sixth-highest-grossing film of 2025, according to Universal Pictures. The film received a nomination for a Visual Effects Oscar.

Reports emerged in November indicating Universal was planning a follow-up featuring returning stars Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, and Mahershala Ali, with Edwards also expected to reprise his directorial role. A targeted release date of June 2028 was also mentioned in the initial report.

Although the domain registrations hint at a potential title, they could also serve as placeholders, according to industry observers. Universal Pictures has not yet officially confirmed the development of another installment in the “Jurassic World” franchise.

Johansson’s current filming commitments may impact production timelines. She is presently working on Mike Flanagan’s new “The Exorcist” film and is slated to appear in Matt Reeves’ “The Batman: Part II” following that project.

Edwards joined the “Jurassic World” project relatively late in the production cycle, inheriting a script already penned by David Koepp and established production and release schedules. Despite these constraints, “Rebirth” proved a significant box office success for Universal.
