Norwood High Student Injured in Electric Bikeโค collision
NORWOOD, Mass. – โAโ 15-year-old highโฃ school studentโฃ was hospitalized Monday afterโฃ beingโฃ struck โby a vehicle while riding an โelectric bicycle in Norwood, Massachusetts.The incident occurred near the intersection of Walpole Street and Geraldine Drive as the โฃgirl โขwas traveling to norwood High School.
According to Norwood Police Department Chief Christopher Padden, the student was riding behind a car when she entered the roadway, obstructing โขthe view ofโ the approaching driverโค and resulting in a collision. She was ejected from the bicycle but was wearingโ a โฃhelmet at the time of the accident.
“She cut behind one car so โthe other driver โcouldn’t see her, and she wasโฃ knocked off of โขher bicycle. She was wearing a helmet, thankfully,” โChief Padden stated.
The injured teen was โtransported by medical helicopter to a Bostonโค hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
Police areโ using the incident to remind both cyclists and drivers to exercise increased caution. “Thes kids on electric bikes and scooters areโ moving a lot faster than they used to beโค when they were drivingโ regularโ bikes andโ scooters,” โpadden explained. “They have โขto be very โcautious, and drivers have to be โvery aware that they can move quicker.”
The driver ofโค the vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating withโข authorities.โข Theโ investigation is ongoing.
