Thuringia Ex-PM Refused Service: Controversy and Political Fallout

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com November 11, 2025
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

WEIMAR, Germany ‍- Former Thuringia ⁤Prime Minister Thomas Kemmerich ‍and his son were refused service at a restaurant in Weimar on Saturday, with staff reportedly telling him,⁤ “You won’t be served here.” Kemmerich, 60, shared ‌the incident publicly ‍on Platform X, describing it as an unwelcome experiance and ‌prompting him ‍to leave the establishment.

Kemmerich, who briefly led‍ thuringia in 2020, inquired as to the ⁤reason for the refusal⁢ and was informed it ‍was simply because he was Thomas Kemmerich. He attributes the incident to the ongoing fallout from his 2020 election as Prime Minister, which relied on‍ votes from the ‌far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party – a first ⁢for Germany and a move‍ widely criticized as breaking political norms.

“This happened to me more often after the prime ministerial election,”‍ Kemmerich told the dpa news agency. He described⁤ the experience as reminiscent of a “really dark time in this country, in this society.”

Kemmerich,a resident of Weimar with his family, noted‌ that such criticism isn’t limited to restaurants, recalling a recent similar‍ encounter with⁢ a passerby in Berlin.‍ He left the Free Democratic Party (FDP) earlier this‍ year and ‍has ‌as joined “Team freiheit,” a political⁤ group founded by former AfD leader Frauke Petry.

Nagelsmann Calls Up Assan Ouedraogo After Amiri Injury

Nagelsmann Names Assan Ouedraogo to German National Team⁣ in Surprise Call-Up

BERLIN – In a late addition to‍ his⁢ squad, Germany national team ⁣manager Julian Nagelsmann has nominated RB Leipzig midfielder Assan Ouedraogo, replacing Nadiem Amiri. The move comes as a surprise, highlighting Ouedraogo’s rapid ascent in the Bundesliga despite recent injury setbacks.

“Which is why we⁣ decided ⁤to nominate‍ Assan Ouedraogo,” Nagelsmann explained.⁣ “Assan is currently doing very well in ⁣the Bundesliga.⁣ He is a young, promising player,⁢ similar to⁣ Said El Mala, who we would like to see in training.” ouedraogo, ‍born‍ in Mülheim an der Ruhr in 2006, has quickly become a key player for RB ⁤Leipzig, establishing‍ himself in the starting lineup after overcoming a serious knee injury and subsequent thigh surgery that limited him to just 70 minutes of‍ play across five appearances last season.

The 2023 U17 world champion was ⁢initially slated for the U21 national team but‌ has now ⁣been fast-tracked to the senior squad. Ouedraogo’s strong performances this season⁢ – two ‌goals⁣ and three assists in⁢ ten Bundesliga games – have propelled ‍him⁣ into contention. He⁢ was previously nominated for the U21 national team in October.

Ouedraogo joined RB Leipzig from Schalke in ⁣the summer ⁣of 2024, attracting interest from clubs like Bayern Munich. He is the third RB ‌player named to⁣ Nagelsmann’s squad, joining full-backs Ridle⁤ Baku and ⁤David Raum. Nagelsmann⁢ recently indicated Ouedraogo, along with Lennart Karl and Tresoldi, where players who coudl perhaps impact the World Cup draw.

Mario Voigt: CDU Must Take a Stronger Stand Against the AfD

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com November 2, 2025
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Thuringia’s Prime⁢ minister⁤ Mario Voigt is urging the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) to shift ⁣its focus‍ away from ⁢the Option for ⁢Germany (AfD), arguing that constant discussion surrounding⁢ the far-right ⁣party is detrimental to the CDU’s ⁢own political positioning. Voigt’s‌ comments come amid internal ⁤debate within the CDU regarding strategy ahead of key state elections‍ next year.

The CDU currently holds significant power across Germany, providing the Chancellor, ⁤eight state governors, a third of city mayors, and‌ two-thirds of district administrators, according⁤ to Voigt.⁢ He believes the party ‍should confidently assert its role⁤ as the leading ⁤force in the country, rather than continually reacting to the AfD’s political maneuvers. This debate unfolds as the AfD ‌gains ⁢traction in opinion polls, ⁤prompting discussions on how‍ best to counter ‍its influence.

Voigt dismissed the concept‍ of a “firewall” against the ‌AfD, labeling⁢ it “unsuitable,” ”fear-driven,” and “passive.” He stated, “This constant⁢ circling around the AfD as a reference point is destroying us.” He called for “a positive basic sound across the country again,”‌ contrasting it with what he‍ described as the AfD’s “foul ⁣mood.”

The CDU leadership recently convened a closed-door meeting two weeks ago to address the AfD challenge. During the meeting, CDU leader⁣ Friedrich Merz committed the party to directly confronting the AfD in anticipation of the upcoming state elections. Merz acknowledged the‍ AfD is highly‌ likely to be their ⁤”main opponent” and ⁢reaffirmed⁤ the CDU’s refusal to ‍cooperate with the party, citing a formal incompatibility resolution. He also‌ warned that the ‌AfD “declaredly wants ‌to⁢ destroy” the ⁣CDU.

**Germany Faces Potential Minority Governments Amid AfD Rise**

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com November 1, 2025
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

afd Gains Prompt Concerns of More ⁣Minority Governments in germany

Berlin – Rising support for the far-right Alternative ⁣for Germany (AfD) is increasing the likelihood of minority governments in several German states, according to CDU leader adn Hessian Prime Minister Boris ‌Rhein. ⁣Rhein warned that forming stable coalitions is becoming increasingly challenging, perhaps leading to a future where governments rely ⁢on ad-hoc majorities.

The trend is already visible in Saxony, where a CDU-SPD minority government has‌ been⁤ in power as december.‌ With several state ⁤elections scheduled for‍ next year, including one ‌in Saxony-Anhalt where the AfD recently polled at around 40 percent, Rhein anticipates ‍this situation could become more widespread, notably in eastern ⁣Germany.

rhein stressed the AfD’s success isn’t solely attributable to the CDU. He challenged the Social Democrats and Greens to examine their policies, asking, “What is actually going on with ‌your ⁤politics and why does your politics actually mean that people ⁣can no longer form a coalition with you because you can’t get over the 5 ‍percent hurdle?”

He indicated a CDU-CSU-FDP “black-yellow” coalition would be a more ⁤efficient governing model,‌ but ⁣cautioned that policy differences – specifically citing the cannabis law, identity law, and faster ‍naturalization processes – are creating friction. “If‌ you are for the cannabis ⁢law ‌and for the identity law, if you are⁤ for faster ⁣naturalization, then you are no longer the FDP with which we would like to form a coalition ‌and which is also elected by the FDP voters,” rhein⁤ stated.

Jerusalem Protest Turns Deadly: Ultra-Orthodox Demonstrate, Teen Dies

jerusalem Protest Turns Tragic: Teen‌ Dies During Ultra-Orthodox Conscription Presentation

JERUSALEM – A large ⁢demonstration in Jerusalem against the potential conscription of ultra-Orthodox young men took ⁤a tragic ⁤turn Thursday, with a ⁣15-year-old falling to his death from the 20th floor of ⁣an unfinished building. The incident occurred as organizers of the‍ rally urged⁤ other young men to descend from upper floors of⁣ the structure, according to reports from the Times of Israel. Security forces are working to safely evacuate ‍over a dozen remaining demonstrators from the building.

The protest, drawing hundreds of thousands of participants, saw ultra-Orthodox Jews taking to the streets to voice opposition to a proposed law that would introduce compulsory military service for ‌the community. Demonstrators sang, clapped, and carried signs declaring their willingness to face imprisonment rather ⁣than serve in ‌the military.

The demonstration caused notable disruption, including the closure⁣ of a highway leading to Jerusalem and the halting of public transportation. Over 2,000 police‌ officers ‍were deployed to manage the protest.

The planned discussions in an Israeli parliamentary committee next ⁣week regarding the conscription law are fueling the unrest. Opposition⁣ to⁤ the ‍bill extends beyond the ultra-orthodox community, including members of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s party.⁤

Ultra-Orthodox Jews traditionally oppose military service, prioritizing full-time⁣ religious study as their primary obligation. This exemption dates back to ‍1948,the year of Israel’s ⁣founding. However, the exemption is ⁤increasingly viewed as ‍unfair ⁣by many Israelis.

The issue presents a significant challenge for Prime ‌minister Netanyahu, who relies on‌ the support of ultra-Orthodox parties ⁣to maintain his government. Attempts to codify ⁢the exemption into law could potentially trigger the collapse of ‌his coalition. While the next general election is scheduled for November, analysts predict Netanyahu may be forced to call ⁣for early elections in the coming months.

The debate over conscription has intensified following‍ the recent conflict between Israel and ‍Hamas in Gaza, which began in October 2023 and has claimed the lives of ⁤over 900 Israeli soldiers. The military has emphasized a need for increased ⁢manpower, while many reservists have been repeatedly deployed.

“The whole ‍thing is a plan to ⁢prevent us from⁢ keeping our⁢ religion,” said 65-year-old ultra-Orthodox Ephraim Luff.‍ “We understand that it is very clear; it is not that they need us, it is that they ⁤want to destroy us as far as religion is ⁤concerned.”

Title: Union Wants to End Dual Citizenship as a Rule

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com October 29, 2025
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Record Naturalizations Spark Debate Over ⁢Dual Citizenship in Germany

Berlin – Germany naturalized a record 291,955⁢ people in 2024, according to⁣ the Federal ⁤Statistical Office, prompting renewed ⁢calls from within the Union parliamentary group‍ (CDU/CSU) to restrict dual citizenship. ⁣the figures, representing the highest number sence data collection began in⁢ 2000, ⁣show Syrians forming ⁣the largest cohort of new citizens, followed ⁤by those originally from Turkey, Iraq, Russia, and Afghanistan.

The debate centers on concerns about‌ integration and loyalty, with politicians demanding stricter conditions for maintaining ⁣German citizenship. Stephan‌ Mayer (CSU) told Bild newspaper, “Violent criminals, serious criminals, enemies of the constitution,‌ anti-Semites and German-haters must have their citizenship revoked promptly if they have two passports. It⁣ cannot be that we give people the privilege ‌of ⁣citizenship and then they trample on our‍ values and us.‌ We urgently ⁢need a fundamental reform ⁤of‍ citizenship law now.” mayer specifically highlighted supporters‌ of Hamas as a group ⁣of concern,⁢ alleging they “stir ⁢up hatred ⁣of Israel.”

Mayer further questioned the principle of general dual citizenship, asking, “As a country, we have to ⁢ask⁣ ourselves whether ⁣we still want general dual‌ citizenship and⁢ whether ⁤we can still afford it.”

Cornell Babendererde (CDU), responsible for naturalization law within the Union parliamentary group, stated in Bild, “Dual citizenship⁢ should be ⁤the ‌exception, ‌not the rule.” He added, ‌”If 80 percent of naturalized people⁣ want to keep their old passport in addition to their German citizenship in 2023, we⁣ have⁤ to ask ourselves: Is the love and identification ⁣with⁢ our ⁤country perhaps not‌ so ‌great ‌in the end and is it perhaps more about receiving the advantages guaranteed‍ with the German passport?”

official figures on the ⁣total number of dual nationals in Germany‌ are⁤ unavailable, though estimates vary. The 2022 ‍Census⁢ recorded approximately 5.8 million dual nationals, while the 2024 Microcensus listed 3.1 million. However, the‍ trend appears to be increasing, with 80 percent ‍of the roughly 201,000‍ new citizens in ⁣2023 permitted to retain their original passports alongside their German⁣ citizenship, according to the Federal‌ Statistical Office.
