Flick downplays Stadium Shift,Welcomes Thiago,Addresses Team Mentality Ahead of Valencia Clash
Barcelona,Spain – Barcelona manager Hansi Flick addressed the media today, dismissing concerns about playing Sunday’s match against Valencia at the Estadi Johan Cruyff instead of the Spotify Camp Nou,while also providing updates on squad members and his broader ideology for the team. The move comes as renovations continue at the Camp Nou.
Flick was resolute that the change in venue wouldn’t impact his team’s performance. ”No, this is not something that affects us when we know the situation,” he stated. “I spoke with the chairman and he explained the situation too me. I am confident and this will not affect the team.” He further emphasized, “no excuses, we have to win tomorrow, the team is focused and if we have to win, we have to win. Good mentality, good attitude on the pitch and to see what I want to see.”
The coach also touched upon several players, including the anticipated return of Thiago Alcántara to the club - this time as a member of his coaching staff. ”I’m very happy that he’s back, everyone is happy, I’m happy. It wasn’t easy to convince him,” Flick revealed. “He brings his experience as a player, he’ll be another member of the coaching staff with a wealth of experience, I can see how the young players listen to him attentively.”
While not directly asked about Frenkie de Jong or Gavi, Flick reiterated his focus on team cohesion over individual stars.”For me, the most important thing is the team, always the team, not one player, the team and thinking about what the team needs from each player.” He also mentioned young talent Bernal, acknowledging the value of experienced voices like Thiago’s in their growth.
Flick addressed a post-match statement following the Rayo Vallecano game - “Ego kills success” - clarifying its meaning. “For me, there are things that happen on the pitch and in the dressing room that I have to resolve. At the end of the day, what’s important to me is that when we play, I want everyone to focus on the good of the team. Everyone knows what to do, and if they make a mistake, they are capable of resolving it.”
He concluded with a call for full commitment from his players. “If you think that today I only gave 50 per cent, that’s not enough, it’s not sufficient. The fans deserve 100 per cent from every player. Last season, they helped us win the titles, and we have to get back on that path.”
