“He is not here,” answered Krejčíková when asked about the absence of Kartus in the lodge. “I have the rest of the team here. Fitness and physio. We have taken it this way now. I guess I don’t want to talk about it yet. Maybe after the tournament,” she added.

The former world number two and two-time winner of last year’s Roland Garros is focusing mainly on fitness for the third Grand Slam tournament of the season. “We did more fitness preparation, because it is the main key for me now. I was not ready for the clay, and if I am not ready, it doesn’t fit together,” she said.

She managed the match against Watson, the 144th player in the world, thanks to her 100% service and three breaks. She advanced to the 2nd round of Wimbledon for the third time in a row. On court number 1, the support of the British fans also stood. “I noticed that they were cheering for Heather a lot. But I was expecting that and I was ready for it. I also heard a few people cheering in Czech. Towards the end of the second set, people were cheering more and I felt that my opponent was getting better with them. That’s why I was I’m glad I finished it and couldn’t go on,” Krejčíková pointed out.

During the match, the native of Brno requested a break to treat her leg. “I don’t know what happened. At some point, when I was chasing a ball that was out and I stopped, I got a stab in my leg and it hurt for the next three balls. I called a physio to tape it up. After that it was better and it only stung me once,” Krejčíková described.

After the unsuccessful Roland Garros, where she finished in the 1st round, she is currently praising the grass part of the season. Before Wimbledon, she also reached the final of the tournament in Birmingham. “On grass, I was looking forward to a new start. In Birmingham, I felt that I was improving match by match. I think that every season I play better on grass and I enjoy it more. The tennis there is interesting and I’m figuring it out , how to use your game. We’ll see round by round,” said the twenty-seven-year-old tennis player.

She won the opening match of Wimbledon the day after the 25th anniversary of the triumph of former coach Jana Novotná. “When I go to the dressing room, I see her photo in such a golden frame. I look at it every day,” she said. “But when she won Wimbledon, I wasn’t even three years old. I was tiny and didn’t know that I was going to play tennis yet, so I didn’t notice it. I would probably watch these dates differently if Jana was still here with us,” Krejčíková recalled.

During the tournament, he lives with a local family five minutes from the site. “I’ve been with them since 2015, so for a long time. I like it there, the family is nice and there’s also a dog. That’s always a plus and key for me. I have great conditions there and it’s a nice revival for me,” she added Krejčíková, who is waiting for the 16-year-old Russian Mirra Andrejevová in the 2nd round.

Fruhvirtová was leading 5-2 and had a match point, but lost. On the other hand, Kvitová and Krejčíková are moving on Currently.cz

Linda Fruhvirtová did not manage another three-set drama at the tournament in Indian Wells. In the deciding set, she already led 5:2 and had a match point, but in the end she lost to Anhelina Kalinin 6:4, 4:6, 5:7. On the other hand, Barbora Krejčíková coped with her opponent from Ukraine, beating Dajana Jastremská 6:1, 6:2. Petra Kvitová also advanced to the 3rd round, defeating the American of Czech origin Elizabeth Mandliková 6:1, 7:5.

Fruhvirtová started the previous duel with Majar Šarífová from Egypt with a humiliating “canary” in the first set, but then took a breath for a big and winning turn.

The fight with the 27th seeded player developed exactly the opposite. The 17-year-old Czech entered the match famously and quickly took a 5-0 lead.

But then she let her opponent pull to within a single game, and Kalinin served to equalize. However, Fruhvirtová captured the set for herself with another break.

In the second act, the Czech immediately lost serve, but she immediately made up for the loss, and she did the same soon after the next break.

However, she served her rival even at 4:5, and Kalininova did not disdain another chance and leveled the set at 1:1 with her own serve.

In the decisive game, Fruhvirtová escaped thanks to a break to 5:2 and immediately had a match point on her opponent’s serve. However, the Ukrainian turned him away, won not only this game, but also the next four in a row, and celebrated the victory after two and three quarters of an hour.

The talented Czech also paid for an unusually high number of double faults, even committing 21 of them.

Today’s second Czech-Ukrainian clash had a clear course. The tournament sixteenth seed Krejčíková, who, like all the other seeded players, had a free draw in the opening round, did not give Jastremská a chance in her first appearance after her triumph at the event in Dubai. She even allowed only one game in the first and two in the second set.

During the entire match, the opponent held serve only in the opening game, so in the second set, the Czech player was not stopped even by the fact that she also lost serve twice. It was over immediately after the first match point in just one hour and ten minutes.

Kvitová also won the first set unequivocally 6:1 in an attractive encounter with the American Mandliková.

However, in the second set, the daughter of the famous Czech tennis player and Grand Slam champion Hana Mandlíková rallied, leading 5:3, but the next four games already belonged to the favored seeded fifteen.

Kvitová’s next opponent will be Latvian Jelena Ostapenko, winner of the Grand Slam French Open. The balance of mutual matches so far is narrowly favorable for the tennis player from Fulnek (5:4).
