Fariz RM Faces Court in Narcotics Case
The Indonesian musician Fariz RM is currently on trial, following his arrest four months ago on drug charges. The case has now progressed, with witness testimonies being presented in court this week, marking a significant point in the legal proceedings.
Trial Details Emerge
The trial concerning Fariz RM took place at the South Jakarta District Court on Thursday. The 66-year-old musician, appearing relaxed, was present in the courtroom. His hair was closely cropped, showing signs of age.
The prosecution presented witness testimony, primarily from the police, to determine Fariz’s involvement in drug use and distribution. The musician’s attorney, Griffinly Mewoh, raised objections regarding the objectivity of the police witnesses, as they were the arresting officers.
“If the prosecutor’s version, today’s agenda is proof for witnesses from the prosecutor (police). They will give testimony whether Mas Fariz uses narcotics? Is Mas Fariz participating in the distribution of narcotics, that is today’s agenda,”
—Griffinly Mewoh, Attorney
Mewoh stated that his team had prepared witnesses to aid Fariz‘s case. According to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, the Southeast Asia region continues to struggle with illegal drug trafficking, with increasing seizures of methamphetamine (UNODC 2023).
Prior Arrests and Evidence
Fariz RM has faced drug-related charges on multiple occasions. Earlier this year, he was apprehended in Bandung, West Java, on February 18, 2025. Authorities found methamphetamine and marijuana during that arrest.
The Legal Process
The focus of the trial is now on witness testimonies and the evidence presented. The defense aims to challenge the prosecution’s witnesses and present their own to support Fariz‘s position. The court proceedings will determine the next steps in this ongoing case.
