A new full-length skate video, Vacant Street Blues, from the Threads Idea Vacuum collective, offers a compelling portrait of Baltimore’s notoriously challenging skate scene. Released today, the video showcases over a decade of footage captured primarily on VX film across the eastern seaboard, culminating in a dedicated focus on the unique terrain of Baltimore.
Baltimore’s skate scene is defined by its difficulty; even its most iconic spot, “The Wire Spot,” frequently frustrates those who skate it. despite this, the city consistently produces talented skaters adn a dedicated community, sharing a similar ethos with scenes in Pittsburgh and Detroit-one characterized by a meticulous approach to finding and utilizing every available skateable feature. Vacant Street Blues reflects this spirit, highlighting the “rub-bricked ledges” and the persistence required to transform overlooked spots into skateable lines.
The video features standout parts from Myles Willard, who recently released a solo video with Vague magazine, alongside Will Johnson and Josh Ferguson. It also includes appearances from prominent Baltimore skaters such as Chris Teta, Spencer Brown, Brian and Sean Powderly, and Jason Spivey.
