Late Model star Bachor Makes Formula V6 BRL Debut at Zandvoort
Zandvoort, Netherlands โ- Late Model โฃdriver Andreas Bachor recently madeโ a guest start in the Formula V6 BRL series atโค the Zandvoort circuit, experiencing aโค significant performance difference between the open-wheel cars and his usual oval racing machinery.
Bachor noted a โsubstantial gap developed as the race progressed, even โcatching the back ofโ the field. “I think โon the last lapโค I just caughtโ up with the last Westfield and was almost on the last Formula โcar,” he said.
While initially challenging, Bachor found the โsubsequent races increasingly rewarding asโ he pushedโ his limits. He was notably โฃimpressedโ by โthe speed and braking capabilities of theโ Formula โcars, stating, “I have too say about โformula driving โคitself: a great experience.” He reported โฃspeeds โฃof “around 240 to 250 kilometers per hour heading into curve 1” and described the braking performance as remarkable, feeling “thatโ the car stopped after braking for 50 meters. It’s amazing what the cars can โdo in Turn 1โ when theโฃ tire temperature is right.”
Driving the slower vehicles presented a different set of difficulties. “It’sโฃ arduous to drive vehicles that are ten to 15 seconds slower per lap,” Bachor explained, adding that maintaining position withoutโข disrupting the race and avoiding deviations from the ideal racing line for overtakes impacted lap times.
Bachorโข acknowledged pushing too hard on some corners, resulting in trips through the gravel trap, โฃbutโ viewed these as โvaluable learning experiences. He remains undecidedโ about repeatingโ the experience due to scheduling conflicts with his V8 Oval series โcommitments.
“But it โฃwas aโ unique experience. That’s why I did it; I thought it had to โขbe great, โคand it was,” Bachor concluded. He recommends the experience to drivers with prior racing experience, emphasizing the cars’ speed and โคhandling but cautioning,”But if you don’t โhave everything under control, youโ can quickly shoot yourself down.”
