Babette van โขVeen and โKatja Schuurman โขReflect on Past Successes and Loss of โคBandmateโฃ Guusje Nederhorst
Thirty years after topping the charts as members of โขthe girl โขgroup Good Times, Bad times, โคBabette van Veen and Katja Schuurman are revisiting their past. The duo, known for hits including “Drops,” recently returned to Mallorca – the location of their iconic music video shoot -โข asโข part of a new docuseries, Breathlessness.
“It is special that we are now suddenly together again and diving into that period,” shared one of the artists. While reminiscing brings joy, the absenceโค of their former bandmate, Guusje Nederhorst, who passedโข away twenty โขyearsโ ago, โคis deeply felt.
“There โคare so many โขcheerful things to remember, but alsoโ heavier things,” โkatja schuurman โadmitted, acknowledging the complexities of their shared history. Despite individual differences, the three women forged a strong bond. “We have been through so much together, seen โso much of each othreโฆthat, no matter how different we were,โ we really wereโข a trinity,” Babette van Veen explained. “Truly one for all and all forโ one.”
speakingโ with Breathlessness program maker Linda Hakeboom, Babetteโข described the experience of returningโ without Guusje as “very ambivalent.” โ”On the one hand,it has been a long time,so a lot of time has passed. And conversely, we also โคhave a lot of splendid memories to look back on,” she said, becoming โฃvisibly emotional alongside katja.
“You would ofโค course have preferred her to โbe there,” Babette continued, “but the fact that she is not here, and โฃthat we are havingโค fun togetherโข andโ that we are allowed to be here, that is something that can make you very happy. Of course you would have preferred it differently, but that’s life.”
Breathlessness premieres every Fridayโข on HBO Max,โ offeringโ viewers a closer โขlookโข at Babette and โคKatja’s journey throughโ memory and loss.
