A new animated film, Aztec Batman: Clash of Empires, is set to bring a unique reimagining of the iconic DC character to life. The movie transports the Batman narrative to 16th century Mesoamerica, centering on Yohualli Coatl, a young Aztec boy whose life is shattered when Spanish conquistadors murder his father.
Driven by a desire to warn King Moctezuma and his high priest, Yoka, of the impending Spanish threat, Yohualli embarks on a journey to Tenochtitlรกn. There, under the tutelage of his mentor in the temple of the bat god Tzinacan, he hones his skills and develops specialized equipment and weaponry to combat the invasion and avenge his father.His path will also cross with important characters such as the formidable Jaguar Woman and the captivating Forest Ivy.
Originally titled Batman Azteca: Choque De Imperios in Spanish, the film is directed by Mexican artist and animation filmmaker Juan Meza-Leรณn, known for his work on series like “TMNT,” “Final Space,” “Rick & Morty,” and “Harley Quinn.” The screenplay was penned by Ernie Altbacker, with the story based on the Batman character created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger. The production team includes producers Josรฉ C. garcรญa de Letona, Fernando De Fuentes S., Carina schulze, Aaron D. Berger, Jim Krieg, and Kimberly S. Moreau. Warner Bros. Animation is behind the production.
Aztec Batman: Clash of Empires is scheduled for release on Video on Demand (VOD) starting september 19th, 2025, and will also be available on DVD and Blu-ray.
