Arizona State โHit with $50,000 Fine for Field-Storming After Upset of Texas Tech
TEMPE, Ariz. – Arizona State University has been โขfined $50,000 by the Big 12 Conference following a field-storming โincident that occurred after the Sun Devils’ 26-22 upset victory over No. โ7 Texas Tech on Oct. 18 at Mountain America โStadium, the conference announced Monday.
The โคfine stems from fans rushing the field as Texas Tech players and coaches were attempting toโค exit, creating a possibly unsafe habitat. Videos circulating on social โmedia showed interactions between โfans and Red Raiders personnel.
The Big 12 statement read: “In accordance with the Big 12 Conference Principles and Standards of Sportsmanship, the Conference has โขissued a public reprimand and $50,000 fine โof Arizonaโค State University for the โคfield storming incidentโ that occurredโค during Saturday’s football game โagainst Texas Tech.
“The Big 12 prioritizes the safety of all players, coaches, and officials. The conference will continue to work with all of itsโฃ institutions on eventโค management policies at โขall Big 12 venues.”
Similar fines have been levied against other universities โfor comparable incidents.Arizona State joined the Big 12 Conference in 2023.
