Florida International University Announces Search for assistant Beach Volleyball Coach
Miami, Fla. – Florida International University (FIU) is actively seeking a dedicated and experienced Assistant Beach Volleyball Coach to join its NCAA Division I athletic program. As a member of Conference USA, FIU boasts 17 NCAA Division I sports programs and is committed to fostering excellence both on and off the sand.
The Possibility
The Assistant Coach will play a crucial role in supporting the Head Coach across various facets of the Beach Volleyball program. This includes, but is not limited to, recruitment, academic monitoring, fundraising, and the coordination of enrollment activities for student-athletes. The position is full-time.
Key Responsibilities
- Assisting the Head Coach with all program-related activities,including recruitment and monitoring academic performance.
- Participating in fundraising and community service initiatives.
- evaluating and coaching practice sessions, demonstrating sport-specific skills and techniques.
- aiding in the design of training and practice strategies to optimize performance and prevent injuries.
- Coordinating enrollment activities and monitoring the academic progress of student-athletes.
- Ensuring the smooth administration of team travel arrangements.
- Maintaining equipment inventory and overseeing distribution to athletes.
- Interacting with campus offices and athletic support units to ensure program success.
- Promoting participation in community service activities.
- Maintaining confidentiality regarding student-athlete facts and university matters.

Recruitment Focus
A significant aspect of the role involves actively recruiting talented student-athletes. This includes attending off-campus games for evaluation, maintaining contact with prospective athletes, and planning campus visits.
The assistant coach will:
- Attend off campus games for evaluation and contact with high schools, junior colleges, four-year schools, and clubs for recruitment.
- Coordinate mailing of recruitment materials and recruiting information.
- Maintain contact with prospective student-athletes.
- Plan campus visits with prospective student-athletes and their parents.
Academic Support and Advancement
The Assistant Coach will play a vital role in monitoring the academic performance and progress of student-athletes, intervening when necessary in collaboration with the Student Athlete Academic Center (SAAC). The goal is to support students through graduation by addressing their academic needs.

Qualifications
Candidates must possess:
- A bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and one year of coaching experience at the high school level or above; OR
- Five years of coaching experience at the high school level or above; OR
- An equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
- Prosperous experience as a graduate assistant or intern in an athletic program is acceptable with one year of the required experience.
