IS Terrorist sought by Police After Going into Hiding Before Deportation
Oelde, North Rhine-Westphalia – Authorities are searching for Mukhammadsaid S., an Islamic State (IS) terrorist who evaded capture shortly before a court-ordered deportation, police confirmed this week. the manhunt began after S. disappeared following a February incident where he attacked officers with a knife inside a police station near Oelde.
The case highlights ongoing challenges in deporting hazardous individuals while navigating Germany‘s legal system. The Oberverwaltungsgericht Münster (Administrative Court of Appeal) ruled definitively that S.can be deported to his home country, stating the decision is legally binding. However, a prior ruling prevented authorities from holding him in pre-deportation detention, allowing him to abscond before the order could be executed. His wife and children are currently permitted to remain in Germany.
According to a court spokesperson, the ruling represents “a victory for the rule of law.” Interior Minister Herbert Reul echoed this sentiment, stating, “The laborious proceedings demonstrate how difficult it can be when enemies of freedom exploit our legal system. It also shows that it pays off when authorities persevere in difficult cases and are willing to go the extra mile.”
The situation took a dramatic turn when S. barricaded himself inside the Oelde police station in February, wielding a knife and clashing with responding officers. This incident occurred before the final deportation ruling and contributed to the decision to seek his immediate removal from the country.
Reul criticized existing regulations as “a prime example of impractical rules in our legal system that make it extremely difficult for our authorities to deport such individuals.” The police are actively pursuing leads in the case, and the search for Mukhammadsaid S. continues.
