Augusta‘s military families and veterans are still awaiting answers regarding โขpotential changes to Eisenhower army Medical Center (EAMC), as the Defenseโ Health Agency (DHA) has yet โto respondโข to inquiries from โขSenator Jon Ossoff’s office. Senator Ossoff’s teamโข has โfollowed up requesting โan update.
The situation arose following a letter dated November 12th, coinciding with the end of a federal government shutdown caused by a Congressional spending dispute.โข Reports of the letter prompted a response from EAMC’s chief, Col. Rose L. Freeman, who addressed the concerns in โขan email to staff. While emphasizing that no โคdecisions have been finalized, the email alluded to “our next โคchapter” for the facility.
According to Col.โฃ Freeman’s email, WRDW, Channel 12/26 in Augusta, reported โon the โฃuncertainty surrounding โคEAMC’s operations. Senator Ossoffโข subsequently sent an officialโ inquiry to โthe DHA, requesting clarification with a response expected by Novemberโฃ 28th.

Freemanโค wrote.”We acknowledge โthat this news creates a important level of stress and concern for staff and our beneficiaries, especially as it comes right after โคan extended government shutdown.”
The email urged employees to refrain from public discussion ofโค the matter, stating, “We will keep you informed on the latest information of all changes asโ we get confirmationโฆWhat we ask is โคthatโ you refrain from onlineโ engagement as a representative โof DDEAMC. It is normalโ to feel like you need โฃto set the record straight and have yoru voice โคheard, but this issue needs to be addressed and handled โthrough official government channels rather than publicโ speculation. โwe sincerely appreciate โyour professionalism โคandโข loyalty toโ DDEAMC as we navigate through our next chapter.”
Eisenhower Army Medical โคCenter currently serves between 30,000 and 40,000 people and functions as a โฃteaching โhospital with 80 residents. The facility employs approximately 1,500 individuals.
Senator Ossoff’s inquiry to the DHA included specific questions about โpotential โreductions inโ the scope of care and services offered at EAMC. He also asked whether theโ DHA hadโฃ assessed the capacity of Augusta hospitalsโข to accommodate additional patients should cuts occur.the letter further inquired about potential service reductions at the Naval Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida, and the facility in Beaufort, South Carolina.
